We were lucky to catch up with Terrica Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Terrica , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My purpose actually found me before I even knew what was happening. Here I was, planning these amazing trips for my family and friends just because I genuinely loved doing it. You know how it goes – you’re good at something, and suddenly everyone’s hitting you up for advice. At first, I thought, ‘Hey, might as well make it official and get some commission since I’m already doing this.’ Simple plan, right?
But you know what they say about plans… God had something way bigger in mind. This wasn’t just about booking trips anymore – it turned into something that honestly surprised me. What started as a casual ‘let me help you plan your vacation’ turned into this beautiful way of bringing people together and creating experiences that change how they see the world.
Looking back now, I can see how every trip I planned, my family and friends having the time of their lives – it was all leading to this! Sometimes your purpose is already there, living in the things you do just because they light you up. You just have to pay attention to the signs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We create these incredible travel experiences that go way beyond your typical tourist stops.
What makes this special is how we experience these destinations through our lens as people of color. There’s nothing like rolling up to spots around the world with a squad that gets you, understanding the culture from our perspective, and making connections that feel authentic. Whether we’re linking with local artists in London, hitting up underground speakeasy spots in Paris, or getting the real deal food experience in Thailand – we’re creating those moments you can’t find in any travel guide.
Speaking of unforgettable moments, our upcoming Jamaica R&B Takeover is about to be legendary. We’re taking over an entire hotel and transforming it into the ultimate R&B paradise. Live R&B performances under the Caribbean stars, an award-winning DJ spinning nothing but the finest 90s-2000s R&B and Hip Hop hits that’ll have you in your feelings, all while living your best life in paradise. This is the kind of experience that’ll have you texting your friends at 3 AM saying “you NEED to be here!”
What gets me excited is seeing people’s faces when they realize travel can feel this good, this natural. We’ve built something that lets you fully immerse yourself in these amazing destinations while staying true to who you are. No code-switching needed, just pure, unfiltered experiences.
Right now, we’re cooking up more fresh destinations and exclusive experiences a Barbados Crop Over. Ghana, Tokyo and the Amalfi Coast to name a few, that we know our Travel Squad going to love. We’re expanding our reach but keeping that intimate, personal touch that makes our trips feel like you’re traveling with family. Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about seeing new places – it’s about experiencing them in a way that speaks to our soul.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things really made the difference in building this travel movement. First, my ability to connect with people – and I mean really connect. Not just being friendly; it’s about truly understanding what makes people feel seen and valued when they travel. If you’re just starting out, focus on building genuine relationships. Listen more than you talk, and pay attention to what people are really saying they want from their experiences.
Second, being able to spot opportunities that others might miss. Like, everyone can plan a trip to Paris, but can they create an experience with seeing an Usher concert in Paris concert but also going to a Falcons game in London during the same trip? That came from constantly staying curious and asking “what if?” For those just starting, don’t be afraid to think beyond what’s already out there. Your unique perspective is your superpower – use it!
Third – and this one’s crucial – was having the courage to just start, even when things weren’t perfect. At first, I was just planning trips for family and friends because I loved it. When I saw the bigger vision, I could’ve waited until everything was “just right,” but instead, I jumped in and learned along the way. My advice? Start where you are. Use what you have. Perfect comes through practice, not waiting.
Improving these skills don’t mean just following some rigid playbook. It’s about staying true to your vision while being humble enough to learn and adjust. Network with intention, not just to collect contacts. Study your craft, but make sure you’re putting your own spin on things. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to take calculated risks. The best opportunities often come from being bold enough to try something new while being smart enough to learn from both wins and losses.
Remember, your journey is your journey. Take what works for you and leave what doesn’t. Just make sure whatever you’re building aligns with who you are and what you believe in. That authenticity? It’s what people connect with, and it’s what turns clients into a community.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Listen, I’m always open to linking with creative minds who understand the vision of elevating travel experiences for people of color. Let me break down some collabs that would be fire:
Think award-winning chefs who can create exclusive dining experiences that blend local flavors with our cultural favorites. Imagine a private dinner in Ghana where the chef is mixing up African dishes with soul food influences – that’s the kind of unique fusion we’re about.
For our music-focused trips like the Jamaica R&B Takeover, I’m looking to connect with artists, DJs, and producers who get how music brings people together. Maybe you’re an R&B artist looking to do an intimate beachfront performance, or a DJ who can curate the perfect vinyl sunset session.
Fashion designers and stylists – let’s create destination-specific capsule collections or host pop-up styling sessions for those Instagram-worthy vacation fits. Because let’s be real, half the fun is looking good while we’re out here living our best lives.
Content creators who can capture these moments in a way that feels authentic and speaks to our experience – not just pretty pictures, but storytelling that resonates with our perspective.
If you’re innovating in your space and see how your brand could add something special to these travel experiences, let’s talk. The best collabs often come from unexpected places, so don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas that might seem different. Just make sure you understand our vibe – we’re about creating those unforgettable moments that feel both luxurious and authentically us.
Bottom line: If you’re doing something dope that could enhance how our travel squad experiences these destinations, I want to hear from you.
