Meet Tucker Kistner

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tucker Kistner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tucker, thank you so much for making time for us today. We’re excited to discuss a handful of topics with you, but perhaps the most important one is around decision making. The ability to make decisions is a key requirement for anyone who wants to make a difference and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your decision-making skills.

I don’t like feeling handicapped by indecisiveness. I have an endless to-do list, but I get anxious when I let decisions linger without action. I cut out the ability to be indecisive and choose to work on one thing per day. It’s called my “Golden Hour.” I turn off my phone, journal for 10-5 minutes to open up my mind, and create a plan for the day. Each day has a set task that needs to be done. For instance, on Sundays, I spend an hour writing my weekly newsletter and writing a blog post. I dedicate one focused hour to that singular task and that’s it. I can get on with my day, knowing that I dedicated an hour to business growth. Through my three years of business ownership, I learned that you just need to make a decision, stick with the plan, and see it through. Let things play out and learn from what happened. The more difficult decisions you make, the faster you will grow and learn.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am deeply passionate about providing personalized and individualized fitness instruction, and I take pride in coaching both small-group and 1-on-1 training sessions. My high-energy, caring, and enthusiastic personality helps my clients feel supported, valued, and like they truly belong in our gym community.

Right now, I’m thrilled to be transitioning my gym to a new, smaller, and more intimate facility. This space will perfectly meet the needs of our current community while providing a strong foundation for the gym’s future growth and success. It’s designed to foster connection, provide a more personalized training experience, and create an environment where every client feels at home. This move represents an exciting opportunity to refine and elevate everything we offer, and I can’t wait to see how it will enhance the experience for both current and future clients.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Accept failure as a learning opportunity and move on. Dwelling on past mistakes and letting wounds linger will only lead to a lack of confidence in future decisions. Instead, embrace quick-decision-making skills and learn from your mistakes along the way.

2. Lean on others. Entrepreneurship is a lonely grind. Find like-minded business owners that complement your business. Connect with other entrepreneurs in your industry so you don’t feel alone. If you want to go far, go with others.

3. Marketing. You need to be online and you need to create content, otherwise, no one will find you. Discover what your ideal clients care about and provide them with solutions. Promote those solutions through various platforms to include Instagram, Facebook, newsletters, Youtube, and a website. If you aren’t sure where to post, ask your clients where they spend most of their time online and post on there frequently.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is a busy parent aged 30-40 who loves fitness, is eager for coaching, and enjoys socializing. Most of the people who walk in the doors of my gym are parents who used to work out 3-5 years ago but stopped when they had kids. Now that their kids are a little more grown and they have free time, they want to get back in shape. Specifically, they want more energy, more muscle, and to feel capable. My ideal clients need to love fitness. Our workouts will challenge you mentally and physically, so if you don’t like feeling uncomfortable or enjoy pushing yourself, you probably won’t like CrossFit. Our ideal client is also social. They come to class yearning to talk to other parents, connect, and de-stress. Their week days are often busy, stressful, and need an outlet to improve their mood and take their mind off work.
