We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shirley And Corrine Satalaya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shirley and Corrine , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Honestly, I’ve learned that not everyone will understand or support our journey, and that’s okay. My sister and I started Glamcuterie out of love for food, for hosting, and for creating meaningful experiences for others. That love is what keeps us going.
The truth is, the doubts and negativity can be tough to hear, especially when you’re pouring your heart into something. But instead of focusing on that, we try to remind ourselves of all the incredible people we’ve been able to serve. Their smiles, kind words, and trust mean everything to us.
We also lean on gratitude. We are so thankful for the opportunity to do what we love and for the community of supporters who believe in us. We don’t take any of it for granted, and we know that every challenge including the naysayers has helped us grow stronger and more committed to our dream.
At the end of the day, our focus is on bringing joy and excellence to each event, and that’s what keeps us grounded and motivated.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Thank you for the opportunity to share our story! Our journey started from a place of love. Growing up, our mom created these incredible gatherings filled with food, laughter, and connection. That inspired us to bring the same kind of magic to others.
At Glamcuterie, we specialize in curating elegant charcuterie experiences for all types of events, from weddings and bridal showers to corporate gatherings and private celebrations. What excites us the most is how food can bring people together—it’s not just about what’s on the table, it’s about the memories created around it.
What makes Glamcuterie special is our attention to detail and personal touch. Every setup is tailored to the unique vibe of the event, ensuring it’s as beautiful and memorable as it is delicious. We also strive to create a sense of warmth and approachability in everything we do, so our clients and their guests feel cared for and celebrated.
Right now, we’re focused on growing our business in exciting ways. We recently collaborated with a cake vendor for Valentine’s Day to create a special package, and we’re exploring new concepts like a sundae bar to expand what we offer. We’re also thrilled to be featured in a local wedding magazine and to participate in bridal fairs. Both are incredible opportunities to connect with new clients and share our vision.
Ultimately, Glamcuterie isn’t just a business, it’s a way to spread joy and elegance through food and heartfelt service. We’re so grateful for the chance to be a part of people’s special moments, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three things have been essential to our journey: creativity, resilience, and customer service focused.
1. Creativity
In our business, creativity is everything. It’s about thinking outside the box, whether it’s designing a visually stunning charcuterie board or creating a unique experience for our clients. We’ve learned that inspiration can come from anywhere, so we always try to stay curious with an open mindset. Our advice to others is to give themselves permission to experiment and embrace their unique ideas—that is what will set them apart.
2. Resilience
Starting and growing a business isn’t easy, and there will always be challenges, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt. For us, resilience has been about staying focused on our goals and seeing obstacles as opportunities to grow. To anyone just starting out, we’d say: embrace the hard days, lean on your support system, and remind yourself why you started.
3. Customer Service Focus
At the heart of Glamcaterie is our deep commitment to making our clients feel valued. Listening to our clients is a priority for us. By listening intently, we can provide a customized experience, thus prioritizing their needs and wants. Exceptional customer service goes beyond delivering a product—it’s about listening to people, anticipating their needs, and making their experience unforgettable. We believe that putting people first is the best way to build trust and lasting relationships. For those starting out, we’d suggest focusing on empathy and communication. Listen to your clients and always strive to exceed their expectations.
For anyone at the beginning of their journey, remember that growth takes time and effort. Be patient, stay authentic, and never stop learning. Your unique strengths and dedication will help you stand out and succeed.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When we feel overwhelmed, we take a step back and remind ourselves of why we started Glamcuterie. It’s easy to get caught up in the challenges of running a business, but one important aspect to remember, is to take your time and prioritize yourself.
We’ve learned the importance of prioritizing and tackling tasks one at time. By breaking down multiple tasks, we each tackle a portion with our individual support systems.
Also, we’ve learned to lean on each other. We are two distinct individuals, each bringing unique skills and perspectives to the table. By working together, we complement one another, enhancing our individual strengths and creating a powerful synergy that allows us to achieve more, together. So, we often rely on each other for support when one feels overwhelmed.
Self-care is essential. Whether it’s taking a walk, spending time with loved ones, or simply pausing to breathe, we’ve realized that stepping away for a moment is often what we need to come back stronger and more focused.
Advice for others:
When you’re overwhelmed, remember that it’s okay to ask for help and take things one step at a time. Surround yourself with people who support you and remind you of your purpose. And most importantly, give yourself grace progress, no matter how small, is still progress.
