Meet Deidre’ Pryor Club Director | Executive Director

We recently connected with Deidre’ Pryor Club Director | Executive Director and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Deidre’ Pryor , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic came from watching and taking mental notes as a young girl of my mother, grandmothers, and other examples I witness. I grew up in a poverty stricken neighborhood which lead me to desire better for my life. I begin working at 15 years of age. It felt good being able to buy some of my heart’s desires, help around the house (not forced). We were taught early to be on time, show up, do your best, and never get comfortable. These words stuck with me, and I am yet echoing those same words to my children, and every young person I encounter. My work ethic remains the same principles from way back with a little twist to it. When I mean work ethic with a little twist, it keeps me balanced. I use those principles outside of the workplace. It’s a way of life, “Show up and do your best.”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Club Director for Boys & Girls Club Of Greater Memphis, and The Founder/Executive Director of The Hygiene Chic Nonprofit Organization. I am passionate about serving youth and assisting in their next level in life. My favorite passion is ensuring youth girls are properly educated on all things hygiene, and preparing them for their menstrual cycle. I LOVE my lane and the impact that has been made so far. I love the fact how we are providing unforgettable experiences for youth girls to have a safe place to discuss hygiene. We also provide an opportunity for them to properly wrap/dispose of sanitary napkins. Most of them wrap and dispose of sanitary napkins for the first time. Education and awareness is our focus areas concerning hygiene.

We’re very excited to host our yearly event The Hygiene LAB in October. This event is catered to youth girls between the age of 10 and up. Registration will open soon.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey I would say passion, being resilient, being a student of your craft. If you are not passionate it’s hard to stay in the race, showing resilience through the tuff moments will keep you going, and always being a sponge while remaining teachable. It’s always a new level which will require a new focus and new skills.

Best advice, always invest in a mentor or mentorship program. Learn while you can behind the scenes and show yourself some grace. Know your lane of interest, and stay in your lane. Work your lane as best as you can, and when the hard days come, surround yourself with Leaders and positive people that will help fill your tank. It’s a process nothing comes overnight. Keep your faith on Unshakable Mode. Create boundaries, and balance.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I am overwhelmed I take a self-care moment to reflect, I create boundaries, and make sure I have balance in my life. I listen to music, quote affirmations, pray and surround myself with like-minded people. Take care my mental health as much as possible.
