We were lucky to catch up with Be.B,Anne Evelyn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Be.B,Anne, so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?
I believe my empathy developed through a combination of personal experiences, values instilled by my family, and my deep love for animals. My home life wasn’t always easy, but those experiences shaped my ability to empathize with others. Despite the difficulties, I learned early on the importance of kindness and the need to be understanding. I saw firsthand that everyone has their own struggles and emotions, so I made it a point to treat others with kindness and respect. This perspective, combined with the lessons I learned from my family helped me develop a deeper understanding of the value of compassion. I believe these challenges made me more attuned to the feelings of others and inspired me to be more empathetic in all of my relationships.
Additionally, my love for animals has played a big part in shaping my empathy. Animals have an innate ability to communicate without words, and I’ve learned a lot about compassion through my bond with them—whether it’s seeing a pet comfort someone or simply noticing how they respond to care and attention. (I have five dogs and two cats haha!)
I think empathy is something that has been nurtured in me through the relationships I cherish, and it’s something I try to bring into every aspect of my life. Being surrounded by supportive, loving people and animals has helped me understand others’ feelings and perspectives in a way that feels natural to me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a 26-year-old accounting professional and skincare entrepreneur, I’m deeply passionate about two things: understanding the inner workings of businesses especially shipping and helping people feel good about themselves through self-care. By day, I’m an accounting professional, enjoying my job while pursuing my accounting designation. I love learning about the diverse needs of businesses and how to offer the right accounting and financial support to help them thrive. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of my clients’ journeys, offering advice, solving challenges, and ensuring they have a solid financial foundation as they grow.
Outside of my career, I’m the proud founder of Be Blessed Skincare & Beauty, a body-care brand dedicated to making people feel pampered and beautiful. I’m passionate about creating unique, decadently scented body care products that help nourish and smooth the skin. It’s incredibly rewarding to see my customers light up after using my products, knowing I’ve played a part in boosting their confidence and self-care routine. My brand is all about self-love and creating an experience that encourages relaxation and indulgence.
What excites me most about both my career and my business is the opportunity to help others—whether it’s by learning about businesses and providing valuable accounting guidance or offering products that make people feel good about themselves. I’m always looking for ways to improve my skills and expand both areas, and in the near future, I’m planning to launch new skincare products and possibly expand into new markets. The intersection of my accounting work and my entrepreneurial ventures really allows me to grow both personally and professionally, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First, resilience has been key, especially given that my home life wasn’t always easy. Overcoming challenges early on taught me the importance of persevering and finding strength in adversity. This quality has helped me maintain focus on both my career and my entrepreneurial pursuits, even when things got tough. For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Stay adaptable and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—each one is a learning experience.
Second, a passion for learning has played a significant role in my success, particularly in both the accounting field and my skincare business. I’m constantly learning—whether it’s about the financial needs of businesses, new industry trends, or ways to improve my products. In accounting, I’m always excited to expand my knowledge, which makes me more effective in my role and helps me provide better financial support to clients. My advice to those starting out would be to always be curious and never stop educating yourself. Seek out mentors, read, take courses, and be proactive in developing your skills.
Finally, empathy has been essential in both my career and my business. In accounting, it’s crucial to understand my clients’ needs and challenges to provide the best possible guidance. In my skincare business, empathy allows me to connect with customers on a deeper level, making sure my products help them feel good about themselves. My advice here would be to always listen and try to understand others’ perspectives. Whether it’s in your personal or professional life, showing empathy builds strong relationships and can lead to greater success.
For those early in their journey, my key piece of advice is to be patient and persistent. Developing these qualities and skills takes time, but they will make a huge difference in the long run. Stay committed to your growth and be kind to yourself along the way

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I try to take a step back and prioritize what’s most important. It’s easy to get caught up in the many tasks at hand, especially when balancing a full-time career and running my own business. One strategy I rely on is breaking things down into smaller, more manageable tasks. When everything feels like a lot, focusing on just one thing at a time helps me stay grounded. I also make it a point to take breaks and give myself moments of self-care, whether it’s stepping outside for a walk or enjoying a quiet moment with a good book. I find that doing something for myself, like using my Be Blessed skincare products, helps me reset and recharge.
Another important strategy is leaning into my support system. I’m lucky to have a strong family, especially my mother and sisters, who provide emotional support and perspective. They remind me that it’s okay to ask for help and that I don’t have to do everything on my own.
My advice for anyone feeling overwhelmed would be to practice self-compassion and take things one step at a time. Don’t be afraid to pause, breathe, and refocus. Recognize that feeling overwhelmed is normal and part of the process, but with a little patience and planning, it’s manageable. And remember, taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of everything else on your plate.
