We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shanika Walls a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shanika, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
After facing a horrific dog attack which could have ended my life, I discovered that surviving to tell your story did not equate to thriving beyond your story. I realized that the confidence I had in my own strength and resilience wasn’t enough to push through. I needed help to overcome. I found that through coaching and redirecting my focus, I could move forward despite my challenges. I found a way that helped me. Now I promote that way to help others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Qualities:
Servant leader, with a caring and compassion spirit, and the ability to listen without judgment.
Advice:
Practice self-care and self-awareness daily. No one knows you better than you.
Remain open to new actions, new attitudes, and new adventures.
Give yourself grace. We are all a work in progress.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Seven Second Life Lessons has been the most endearing and impactful book I’ve ever read, besides the Bible. It is a collection of wise enlightenment that has been imparted in me over the years, and it has been a catalyst for improvement in every area of my life.
It covers a plethora of topics ranging from finance to family, health to humanity, and relationships to recovery. If it happens in life, it’s covered in this book.
In this era of fast access, rapid change, and on demand, it’s refreshing to know that I can devote just 7 seconds a day to challenging myself to think differently, feel differently, and act differently.
