We were lucky to catch up with Jane Cho recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jane , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I would say that my resilience stems from watching my parents go through the hardships of immigrating later in life while always prioritizing the happiness of our family. Growing up in that environment has made me naturally develop a strong sense of responsibility and resourcefulness. From a young age, I took on various roles and tried many different things to contribute to our family’s well-being. I think these experiences not only shaped my adaptability but also taught me the value of perseverance, which has been crucial in shaping who I am today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I believe I have the happiest job in the world, and one of the most rewarding aspects is being part of one of the most special days in a person’s life—the day a new family is born through their wedding. Sharing in their joy and celebration is a privilege I consider my greatest blessing.
Unexpectedly, I also found myself working in tattooing, which has shown me how essential this art can be, especially for those going through difficult times. It’s not just about beauty or making money; my work carries a deeper meaning and purpose.
As much as I love the creative side of my work, my focus is now shifting toward expanding and growing my business. I’m dedicated to building something even bigger, reaching more people, and creating a lasting impact. Because of this, even if I were to be born again, I would choose this path without hesitation.
Currently, I’m also involved in theater productions and working with celebrities on various shoots, but I am dreaming of even greater future for my business.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe the three qualities that have had the most impact on my journey are faith in myself, a positive mindset that believes anything is possible, and a broad perspective that allows me to make good judgments and accept things based on the situation. I truly believe these qualities have more value than any knowledge or information.
Obviously, there is no single ‘correct’ answer, as everyone’s starting point is different and unique. However, I think the 10,000-hour rule is something that cannot be ignored, and that’s why I want to emphasize the importance of dedication and hard work.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instilling in me the belief that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. Even though their immigrant journey wasn’t easy, they always prioritized our family’s happiness and well-being, constantly praying for us and offering support and encouragement. Because of them, I learned to overcome challenges, embrace change, and never give up on my dreams. Their unwavering support and dedication shaped who I am today, and the example they set continues to inspire me.
