Meet Jill Witte

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Witte. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.

Hi Jill, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose because I wanted to learn how exercising could work for me and my body. Our bodies are different and what works for one person doesn’t work for another, so I got my personal trainer certification. Once I started understanding how my muscles worked I wanted to learn about nutrition and how food works with my body, so I got my nutrition certification. Soon, I wanted to help people get in shape and teach them how exercising and nutrition can work for them. Overt time I saw their was a population of people who felt they couldn’t workout because of a chronic illness/injury, autoimmune disease, or because they had a joint injury that they would need surgery for so, I got my certifications in these areas to help people in those groups. Now, I am working on getting my message out that anyone can exercise despite what they have going on with their body.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I started True Fit Balance to help people who feel they are unable to workout because of a chronic illness/injury, autoimmune disease, joint injury, feel they have poor balance because they are getting older, have had cancer or any reason that stops them from exercising. Unfortunately, our bodies are not the same as they were when we were younger. They are always changing so we have to adapted how we exercise to how are bodies are now.

One of the biggest things I teach my clients is how to connect their body to their brain. If we are not thinking about the muscle we are training in the moment then we can train the wrong muscle or we could injure ourselves. An example is doing a bicep curl. Most people will start the lift with their forearm and feel it there instead of in their bicep. When we think about the bicep then we start the lift from the bicep and not the forearm.

Connecting the brain to the body we are able to activate the muscles individually then we are able to take that knowledge and apply it to everyday life. When we go upstairs or stand from a chair we push up through our knees to stand/go up, I teach my clients to squeeze their quad (thigh) and glute (butt) muscles when they go/ stand up. This helps wear and tear on the knees.

My goal is to help people around the world. I do offer online training but I also created Mindfulness In Exercises. It is a community where people can get exercises, nutrition and health tips.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I have my certifications in chronic disease/injury, autoimmune disease, cancer, pre/post joint surgery, brain health and nutrition. All of these certifications have helped me with all my clients. When I have a client I am not sure how to help them I look for a certification to help me understand what they are going through better. An example of this is, is that I had a client with nerve issues. I looked online and found a nerve flossing certification. This knowledge has now allowed me to stretch my clients better which then allows them to move better. From the nerve flossing class, I took a postural pain class which gives me more stretches I can use on my clients.

To anyone starting out in personal training I recommend doing continuing education because you can help your clients more efficiently

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

My number one challenge right now is trying to have a life/work balance. I started True Fit Balance in 2024 and have so many things I want to do but I also know I need to take time for myself and my family. To avoid burn out I take time off when I can and I also set boundaries for myself.
