Meet Terrie Karam

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terrie Karam. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terrie below.

Terrie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Right before the lockdown, I was close to burnout. I loved my art, but it wasn’t nourishing my soul. During the lockdown, I had time to reflect and reconnect with my purpose.

In 2021, I began working with a life and work coach who completely changed my perspective. She helped me find confidence in myself and embrace my “healer” side—the part of me that loves creating meaningful connections and helping people feel whole again.

Thanks to her, I became the best version of myself over those two years.

Since then, I’ve transformed my way of working. Today, my tattoo sessions are about more than just creating art—they’re about creating something deeply personal and therapeutic. I tell my clients, “This is your story, your design, your tattoo. Let’s create it together.” Every session is unique, and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My work focuses on celebrating individuality through art. Every tattoo I create is more than just a design—it’s a reflection of someone’s personal journey, a memory, or a story they wish to carry forever. My brand grows organically through word-of-mouth recommendations, which I believe is the most authentic way to connect with people who resonate with my approach.

Social media has also been a key platform for sharing my work. I use Instagram and Facebook to showcase not just the final pieces but also the creative process and the unique stories behind each tattoo. My goal is to inspire and connect with people who value collaboration and personalization in their tattoos.

At the heart of my work is the belief that art should be meaningful. My sessions are a partnership where clients feel heard and valued. This philosophy has helped me build a reputation that extends beyond the art itself—it’s about creating experiences that people cherish.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, three key qualities and skills stand out as being the most impactful:

– Empathy: Understanding and connecting with people on a deeper level has been at the core of my work. As a tattoo artist, I’ve learned that empathy is not just about listening but about creating a safe and welcoming environment where clients feel seen and valued. This connection transforms a simple tattoo session into a meaningful experience.

Advice: Practice active listening. Pay attention to people’s stories and emotions without judgment. This skill doesn’t come overnight, but the more you focus on understanding others, the stronger your ability to connect will become.

– Adaptability: No two clients or projects are ever the same. Early in my career, I realized the importance of being flexible—not just in my creative process but also in my mindset. Adaptability has allowed me to embrace new ideas, refine designs during sessions, and grow both as an artist and as a person.

Advice: Be open to feedback and change. Seek out opportunities to challenge yourself and work outside your comfort zone. It’s in those moments that you’ll discover new skills and perspectives.

– Storytelling Through Art: My ability to translate emotions and stories into visual designs has been transformative in my career. Tattooing is not just about technical skills; it’s about creating art that carries meaning. This storytelling element makes my work more personal and resonates with my clients.

Advice: Invest time in honing your creative skills and developing your unique artistic voice. Study other art forms—photography, painting, writing—and learn how to evoke emotions through your work. Never stop experimenting and pushing your boundaries.

Focus on building your foundation, both technically and emotionally. Learn the technical skills needed for your craft, but also nurture your ability to connect with others and adapt to new situations. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who inspire you, and don’t be afraid to ask for guidance.

Most importantly, be patient with yourself. Growth takes time, and every step—no matter how small—is part of your journey. Embrace the challenges, learn from them, and keep moving forward.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely! As I continue to expand my journey into event planning and experiential design, I’m looking to collaborate with individuals and organizations that share a passion for creating meaningful and memorable experiences.

Specifically, I’m seeking partnerships with:

1. **Event Organizers and Coordinators**
People who are skilled at orchestrating seamless events and who share a vision for blending creativity with community engagement. I’d love to work on projects where we can combine artistic elements with exceptional planning to create unforgettable moments.

2. **Creative Professionals**
Designers, visual artists, performers, and storytellers who can bring unique perspectives to an event. Collaboration with other creatives excites me because it allows us to push boundaries and explore new ideas together.

3. **Wellness Advocates and Mental Health Experts**
Given my background in creating therapeutic and meaningful connections through art, I’m particularly interested in collaborating on events that promote well-being and mental health. I believe events can be a space for healing, inspiration, and connection.

4. **Corporate and Nonprofit Organizations**
Companies and nonprofits looking to host innovative events that go beyond the standard and create lasting impact. I’m especially drawn to causes that align with personal growth, artistic expression, and community building.
