Meet Laura Gilmore

We were lucky to catch up with Laura Gilmore recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

It’s become a quiet truth to me that even though I had gone through the academic world and had a degree, and lots of professional experience, what I felt most natural at was being an astrologer and intuitive reader.
This was a gift I was born with and the astrology part came from my Mom, who was also an astrologer, practicing in Southern California. I kept coming back to the astrology and metaphysical books and people’s charts as a way to answer bigger questions, and also people loved having their charts read.

As I was working in digital marketing on the tech side, it slowly became apparent how fast things change and how elitist the environment can be. The younger hires were definitely pushing the senior people out, and that has really escalated these past few years. Astrology was something I could come back to and feel really comfortable with, be my own boss, not update my skill level constantly or worry about getting laid off over and over.
As far as an ethic, my Mom was very hard working and was always busy creating something and working to help people as a chiropractor and naturopath. Before that she was a successful composer and performer. She was always her own boss. I saw that.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I started to learn astrology at age 7 from my Mom, also an astrologer. She had so many books, which I would avidly read. But not just astrology – I got exposed to a lot of metaphysical teachings, as well as theosophy, which I think made me understand people better, and theories about how things really work. For example, the ideas of karma, reincarnation, different energy vibrations and other modalities.
I would read people’s charts and do psychic readings at parties in Hollywood as a teen and when I moved to Boston. When I moved to New York in 2008, that’s when I decided to take things to the next level. Everyone was exploding onto the web with their businesses, so I created the name “Astrobabe,” which has worked well and became somewhat of a popular astrologer, in the NYC area, with a 5-star review Yelp page, a website and social platforms.
This was really a confidence boost and what people told me from their readings was finally starting to sink in. The general message was I was helping them in many ways and I had a pretty high level of accuracy in my readings. I offer both one hour and 30 minute readings, as well as 30 minute transit readings.
I have been doing corporate events and parties since I started working in NYC and those go very well. There is always a line for mini-reads. People love it.
Right now I’m thinking of expanding to personal coaching, using astrology and intuitive readings.
We’ll see how that unfolds!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’m so glad I read old books. These belonged to my Mom and a lot of newer authors have gleaned info from the books I read as a child. You can find a lot of them on amazon, but they probably aren’t readily available at a bookstore. A lot of the older astrologers (I’m talking 20th century and before) didn’t do anything to digitize their works, so a lot of the info is only in print.
I am always searching for hidden knowledge and looking to understand the deeper mysteries of life; that is something that drives me.
One thing: I’m glad the younger generations are more open to astrology and metaphysical knowledge. I had to be resilient as a youngster to many criticisms from people around me and the older, conservatives who thought it was all “fortune telling.”

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I would like to do more live events as I enjoy mixing with people and seeing them light up when they have a reading with me.
If you are part of a corporation or other business and seeking entertainment for your next party or event, I’d love to hear from you!
