Meet Brynn Snyder

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brynn Snyder. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Brynn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in a combination of my upbringing and personal challenges. Growing up, my parents were exemplary models of hard work, which significantly influenced my approach to tasks and goals. Additionally, being dyslexic presented unique challenges, especially in academic settings. From a young age, I was determined to excel academically despite difficulties with reading. With the support and guidance of my mom and teachers, I learned to adapt and work even harder to achieve the grades I desired.Participating in sports also played a crucial role in shaping my work ethic. The discipline and perseverance required in sports translated well into other areas of my life, including academics and entrepreneurship. Starting my own company at the age of 15 was a pivotal experience that reinforced the idea that hard work directly correlates with better outcomes. This blend of influences from my parents, my experiences with dyslexia, sports, and early entrepreneurship all contributed to the strong work ethic I carry into my professional endeavors today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My primary focus is on helping people adopt a preventative approach to their oral health, which is something I’m genuinely passionate about. My experience working in a dental office opened my eyes to the significant impact oral health can have on a person’s overall well-being. For instance, observing the detrimental effects of certain lifestyle choices, like regularly consuming sugary drinks, on someone’s dental health was eye-opening. This motivated me to provide people with tools that empower them to take control of their oral health, making it easier for them to maintain good dental hygiene.

Additionally, I am deeply committed to creating a supportive and flexible work environment at our company. It’s important to me that we accommodate the needs of working moms and provide opportunities for marginalized groups such as refugees. We have implemented a core working schedule from 9 to 2, allowing employees the flexibility to manage their work around personal commitments, such as attending their children’s sports events—something I value for myself and strive to offer to all our team members.

At Slate, we are also continuously focused on innovation. We’re excited about some upcoming developments, including the launch of a new floss head color and a travel case. While there are more innovations in the pipeline, those will remain a surprise for now. We encourage everyone to follow us to stay updated on these exciting advancements. This blend of promoting health, supporting our team, and driving innovation encapsulates our mission at Slate.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities and areas of knowledge have significantly shaped my path. Firstly, entrepreneurship has been foundational. Starting a company in high school provided me with early, hands-on experience in running a business, which has been invaluable. Secondly, my education and career as a product designer equipped me with the skills necessary to develop consumer products more effectively. Understanding the design process and consumer needs has been crucial in bringing successful products to market.Thirdly, being dyslexic has taught me to recognize my weaknesses and leverage the strengths of others to compensate. This self-awareness led me to hire a customer service team early on, understanding that empathy and communication are vital in addressing customer concerns—a skill that doesn’t come naturally to me, as I tend to focus directly on solving the problem. For those starting their journey, especially in consumer goods, I recommend beginning with a minimal viable product. This approach allows you to gather valuable customer feedback early on, which can guide further product development and ensure that the product meets consumer needs. Remember, developing a good product typically requires a significant time investment—often five to ten years—so resilience and long-term commitment are essential. Embrace the journey, learn from your customers, and continuously strive to improve your offerings.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I am always open to collaborations and partnerships. I particularly enjoy working with other female founders and health companies that prioritize preventative health and empowering consumers to take charge of their lives. Our goal is to collaborate with companies that share similar objectives, regardless of whether they are directly involved in oral health.Supporting other women in their entrepreneurial journeys is something I am passionate about, and I am always eager to lend a hand in that regard. Throughout my experience, I’ve gained substantial insights into direct-to-consumer (D2C) and e-commerce, which were areas I initially knew less about. Understanding the importance of effective advertising and having a skilled team to manage platforms like Meta, Google, and email marketing has been crucial.Additionally, we are enthusiastic about partnering with affiliates who love our product. We believe that word-of-mouth remains one of the most powerful forms of advertising. If you are interested in becoming an affiliate or exploring other partnership opportunities, we are keen to connect and see how we can work together to achieve mutual goals and help more people take proactive steps towards better health.
