We recently connected with Hayley Neville and have shared our conversation below.
Hayley, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I believe that resilience comes from experiencing hardships, and instead of letting it defeat you, learning from it and trying again, even if you’re scared. I believe being resilient forms and builds empathy for others, and understanding towards yourself. There are many areas of my life where I could apply that word, to be honest. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since I was less than a year old, that has been an absolute rollercoaster in every capacity, mentally, physically and financially. But through that, I’ve learned that I need to give myself grace and understanding, because it’s not easy. While it’s hard and exhausting, finding community through it and knowing that I’m not alone, that I’ve had the opportunity to give back through my volunteer work with the American Diabetes Association and their summer camps, it’s truly made me better and stronger. Being knocked down again and again but getting back up and trying again, even at 5%, even when it feels like things may never get easier, but not letting the hard times stop you from reaching your dreams however you can, those are the lessons I’ve learned in my life thus far. To add, my favorite saying; do it, scared.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Hayley, I’m born and raised in Kansas, 28 years old, and a pet parent to my two animals, my dog Rodeo Randi and my cat Clawdia. Bxbbly was created after my wedding in October 2023. My best friend Sam was my maid of honor and she planned my bachelorette party, and the rest is history! She started the business towards the end of October that same year and brought me on quickly after as co-owner. Our dynamic is very chaotic most of the time, which keeps things fun! If Sam is panicking about something, I’m usually the rational one, but sometimes that flips. Lucky we tend to panic about opposite things! We keep each other grounded when needed and excited every other moment!
We started by specializing in bachelorette parties and quickly expanded from there. We are truly down to plan any party, you dream and it and we can do it! Balloons and backdrops are what we’re most popular for, but we do full planning, including itinerary curation and lodging search, to custom apparel for your whole group, to gift bags and so much more! Any time we get to go all out, we are SO in!
More recently, we expanded into rental items! Our biggest, most popular piece being a full size vintage telephone booth that doubles as an audio guestbook. She is stunning, and we have plans to improve her and build more, but she is such an eye catching piece and is currently being booked for 2025 and 2026 weddings!
The foundation of our business is based on the principle that EVERYONE deserves to be celebrated. We are all about love and equality. Inclusion is extremely important to us, and everyone is welcome here.
Right now our goals are to keep growing as a business, making connections, and throwing the best parties.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first biggest thing I had to learn was to not be afraid to voice my opinion. I had so many ideas in my head, but the fear of failing or somebody questioning my ideas held me back from being truly, fully involved. Not every opinion or comment that challenges you is an attack. Learning to take constructive criticism is so incredibly important to your personal growth!
Second, forcing myself to get out of my shell! Anyone who has met us will tell you that Sam is absolutely the more outgoing one. It takes me a little bit longer to open up to new people, and being in a business that is all about connections, you have to learn how to get past that! It’s still a work in progress for me, but being able to connect with people online, making connections and networking that way, has helped me a lot in real life situations. It’s hard being an introvert in the party business!
And last but maybe most importantly, taking care of myself when my body and brain are telling me to. I am a person who always wants to be looking towards the next big event or working on a new project, it’s what motivates me and gets me excited about things. But for me personally, I work a full time job on top of this business AND I’m handling my disabilities, type 1 diabetes being the most prominent. I’ve really had to learn to give myself a break, not even necessarily because my body is telling me to, but because I know if I don’t do it now, I’ll regret it later. I rest when I can, and if I need a break, I take one. I’m really lucky to have the business partner I do, Sam never gives me a hard time or makes me feel bad for needing a break or extra help, and I do my best to remind her that she deserves breaks too. Self care is important!
You have to remember, you will know so much more a year from now than you do currently at this moment. Don’t be afraid to adjust or change the way you do things. The connections you make are so integral to your success, be kind to one another and uplift each other when you can!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are ALWAYS looking to collaborate! We do many styled shoots, we’ve worked with photographers, models, caterers, florists, and other party planners. We also currently partner with some venues, air bnbs, wine companies, and several others! We love collaborating with other businesses! If you have a business that you aren’t sure how it would work, for example, with a styled shoot, reach out and we’ll do our best to brainstorm some ideas!
