Meet Bailey Skaggs

We were lucky to catch up with Bailey Skaggs recently and have shared our conversation below.

Bailey , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room can be difficult yet empowering. One of the biggest challenges I faced as a business owner was learning to be okay with “being the only one in the room.” This was a challenge for me because I have always struggled with being different. I felt like I never fit in anywhere, when I was a child in school, as an adult in friend groups, I have always felt like I was the only person in the room. When I started and created my business, Charmed Esthetics Holistic Facials & Reiki, my dreams and goals were different from the average esthetician or even a Reiki practitioner. My goal was to effectively combine skin health with energetic health. As a holistic esthetician, I automatically became the odd one out. While a holistic approach is becoming more popular now, it wasn’t always that way. Holistic practices were often dismissed as myths or deemed ineffective. When I worked in medical esthetics, I was frequently told that holistic skincare didn’t work and was inherently ineffective. However, through my own study, research, and personal experiences, I discovered that holistic skincare is not only effective but often better for the skin and body than the toxic ingredients and fillers commonly found in over-the-counter and medical skincare products. This realization reinforced my commitment to pursuing a holistic approach, even in the face of skepticism.
I went on to integrate Reiki and energetic healing practices into my esthetics procedures. This was a long journey over a few years, and I didn’t have anyone who did exactly what I envisioned. I had no role models to look up to and say, “That! That is exactly what I want to do.” It often felt lonely, discouraging, and confusing. Initially, I had no one to bounce ideas off who fully understood the concepts I wanted to incorporate into my business. I had no blueprint and no clear path to follow. My goals and business were unique, unlike anything the world had seen. Being a creative individual can feel isolating when you’re the only one who can visualize and articulate your ideas.
So, how did I overcome this? How did I get to a place where being the only one in the room felt comfortable? I eventually had to become my own role model. I began finding effective ways to brainstorm ideas that worked for me and the way my brain processes information. This required trial and error, so I also had to learn to be patient with myself. I established a solid self-care system that allows me to stay centered and focused. This includes setting aside time for daily mindfulness practices, such as meditation or journaling, to process my thoughts and emotions. Regularly disconnecting from work to enjoy hobbies or spend time in nature helps me recharge my mind and body and stay inspired. These practices remind me to care for myself, so I can show up fully for my business and clients. I learned to trust myself before diving into any project, even if the vision was unclear. Over time, I gained the confidence to share my voice and pursue what I knew the world needed: self-care. A safe space to heal from tough emotions, situations, and life stressors, where people can gain the tools and knowledge to live more peaceful and joyful lives.
I also had to cultivate self-discipline. I evolved my self-discipline by proving to myself that I could succeed in small, tangible ways. For example, I decided to stop biting my nails, a habit I had struggled with throughout childhood. Initially, I doubted my ability to break the habit, thinking, “I’ve been doing this for so long; there’s no way I can stop.” But I challenged myself, saying, “Okay, I’m going to prove you wrong.” Every time I caught myself about to bite my nails, I would stop, put my hands down, and distract myself with something else. It was hard and took time to retrain my brain, but I stayed consistent and kind to myself. I did not talk down to myself when I caught myself slipping. Instead, I reminded myself that it was okay and part of the process, giving myself so much grace. Eventually, the habit faded. One day, I realized my nails were too long, and for the first time, I had to buy nail clippers to trim them instead of biting them. This small victory showed me that with consistency, I could develop self-discipline. It was a powerful reminder that even small successes can build confidence and momentum. This meant showing up for my business every single day, even if it was just in small ways, while also showing up for myself. I realized that I couldn’t be of service to anyone, especially my clients, if I didn’t take care of myself first. On the hard days, when everything felt like it was crumbling and I wanted to retreat, I had to remind myself to keep going. I had to block out the noise of others’ opinions and focus on pursuing my dreams. I kept showing up, posting, advertising, and experimenting until I found what worked, all while adapting as I evolved.
Deep down, I knew in my gut that the world needed the unique healing experience I offer. As I became more vocal about my passions and goals, I found like-minded individuals who shared similar dreams. I achieved this by promoting what I do louder than I ever had before. I pushed myself to attend events that I previously wouldn’t have felt confident going to. By showing up authentically as myself, I attracted like-minded friends who resonated with my energy and vision. Together, we created a support system to help each other navigate our unique creative journeys.
Being uniquely creative can feel lonely, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Only you know what’s brewing in your mind, and only you can trust that idea and bring it to life—even when you’re the only one in the room who does what you do.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi! My name is Bailey Skaggs and I am the owner of Charmed Esthetics Holistic Facials & Reiki. I have created a space where self-care, energetic healing and skincare come together. My journey into this work started over six years ago. I began my career as an esthetician in the medical side of skincare, but as I spent more time in that world, I became increasingly disappointed with the toxic beauty standards. My personal life aligned with more holistic perspectives and outlooks, so naturally I was not happy in the MedSpa environment. Although I was unhappy in my environment, I still loved what I did. I sat with what gives me hope, what I love about being an esthetician and why I became one in the first place. I came to many realizations – I love helping my clients feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. I love helping others feel empowered. I love to help clients feel as relaxed as can be in a busy, always moving society and I absolutely LOVE the smile on every client’s face when they see their skin glowing and healthy while also feeling relaxed and recharged, energetically. So, I knew I needed to make a shift—to find a path where I could help people feel good, not just look good. So, in 2022, I opened Charmed Esthetics, with a focus on relaxing, holistic facials. As I evolved into this new journey of holistic facials, I realized something bigger was happening than just an average facial. After my facial sessions, my clients would be in such a relaxed, almost meditative-like state of mind, I knew in my gut something bigger was happening. Luckily, I had amazing mentors and a really great support system (who would also get facials from me and confirmed my natural healing gifts) that walked me through what was happening. I realized that I am a naturally gifted, intuitively guided, energetic healer. As I started to explore this path, I had the idea of combining skincare with energy work. I started my studies into energetic healing, I took courses such as shamanic drumming, intuitive development, sound healing, how to use crystals to enhance the power of energy for my clients, and my journey with becoming a Reiki Master & Reiki Teacher. Throughout the years of study I slowly started incorporating little things into my facials to begin the transition to energy healer and esthetician. I am now offering a variety of different services that flawlessly integrate Reiki and energy work into every Facial Experience at Charmed Esthetics.
My specialty is a truly unique and creative experience, seamlessly combining skin health with an energetic health. My most popular Facial Experience I do is The Reiki Facial. It is my unique creation that is a combination of my signature facial (customizable to each client’s skin concerns and goals) with Reiki and other energy healing practices. Both the facial and the Reiki, all working simultaneously together, creating a deeply relaxing, restorative and healing experience. It’s about more than just skin—it’s about nourishing your mind and soul, too. I believe true beauty comes from within, and when we honor our bodies, our energy, and our needs, we can truly glow.
I also offer a variety of Reiki Infused Facial Experiences that all include a Marma (energy) Point special massage that aligns with certain pressure points in the face that connect down to the body and Chakras, crystal tools to enhance energetic healing, tuning forks and shamanic drumming for sound healing and frequency.
I partner with Green Envee Plant Active Skincare, Body Care & Essential Oils. I love the holistic philosophy of this skincare line, they only use organic farms to derive their ingredients. I get effective, amazing results from my clients and in the treatment room! Green Envee’s Body Care & Essential Oil Blends are also perfect for enhancing my luxurious Facial Experiences and Reiki Sessions.
I offer Reiki Sessions and Chakra Alignments, without the skin health included as well. Reiki is beneficial for stress, anxiety, grief, aches, pains and headaches, overthinking and eliminating daily life stressors.
I am offering a new dynamic to my practice this year! I will be offering Reiki Workshops and Attunements for those who want to learn and be attuned to Reiki. I’ve always had a passion for teaching others and cannot wait to teach what I love to do!
What sets me apart from others is the way I approach beauty and wellness. I see skin health as a practice of self-care and love. I educate my clients on how to best take care of their unique skin type from the comfort of their own homes, I offer tips and tricks on how to intertwine at home skincare routines with self-care routines. The combination of esthetics and energy work isn’t something you’ll find everywhere, and it’s this blend that makes my treatments so special. I’m most proud of the community I’ve built—clients who feel safe, heard, and truly cared for. That’s what it’s all about for me: creating a space where people can let go of the stress, reconnect with themselves, feel empowered and leave feeling better than when they came in.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about me and Charmed Esthetics, it’s that this is a place where you can step out of the chaos of life and into a space of calm and tranquility. It’s a space for healing, for peace of mind, and for taking care of yourself, not just on the outside, but on a deeper level. On the inside as well. I’m here to help in both your skincare journey as well as your self-healing journey!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey, the key qualities that had the most impact on my path were trusting my intuition, being adaptable to growth and change, and staying committed to learning.
Trusting your intuition is such an important skill to practice. When I started feeling out of alignment with the MedSpa world, it was my intuition that guided me to see I needed a change. I reflected on what was causing me distress and what brought me joy and purpose. Connecting with my intuition helped me rediscover my love for helping people feel confident, relaxed, and empowered—inside and out. Without listening to my gut, I wouldn’t have found my unique path in holistic facials and energy healing.
My advice to anyone reading this is simple: trust your gut. Even if you’re not sure why, trust it anyway. A small example of this could be pulling up to a gas station late at night. It’s dark, empty, and you feel an odd sensation in your gut. Listen to that inner voice telling you, “This doesn’t feel right.” Instead, drive to another gas station down the street. Later, you might see on the news that the gas station you avoided was robbed at the exact time you would’ve been there. This is why intuition matters—it’s a built-in safety system. Our highest selves see and know more than we realize. My mother instilled this belief in me and my siblings, and I am so grateful for that. As my mother always says, “No matter what, trust your gut.”
Becoming adaptable to growth and change is a must-have quality. From becoming a Reiki Master and exploring energy healing to studying skin health, I’ve embraced opportunities to grow my skills and evolve my practice. Every course or certification I pursued wasn’t just about gaining knowledge—it was about finding new ways to help my clients feel their best, inside and out.
When I started my business, Charmed Esthetics, I was solely a holistic esthetician, combining skincare and holistic practices into my facials. At the time, my focus was on holistic techniques like using crystal skincare tools, lymphatic drainage with a Gua Sha, and sculpting massage techniques as natural alternatives to Botox or fillers. But as my practice grew, I felt something bigger happening. My facials became more than just relaxing experiences—they became deeply transformative for my clients and myself.
I realized I needed to grow with my practice, even though the idea of change was scary. My clients relied on me for stability and safety, and I didn’t want to disrupt that. But deep down, I knew I was meant to evolve. I trusted my gut, calmed my mind, and listened for clarity. I came to the realization that to support this growth, I had to further my study and research in energy healing. I began taking classes and workshops to improve my skills and evolve my practices and procedures. I went through all the Reiki degrees and am now a Reiki Master & Teacher. I incorporated these practices into my facials, creating what eventually became my signature, The Reiki Facial.
To sum it all up: Trust your intuition. Spend time reflecting on what feels true to you and what you’re passionate about. If something feels out of alignment, give yourself permission to explore other paths. Be adaptable. Change can be uncomfortable, but it’s often necessary for growth. Stay curious and keep learning. Whether through formal education, mentorship, or self-study, embrace opportunities to expand your knowledge. Growth is an ongoing process that refines both your craft and yourself.
By trusting myself, embracing change, and staying committed to learning, I’ve built a practice that aligns with my purpose and allows me to help my clients grow, heal, and thrive from the inside to the outside!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Life can throw some tough challenges our way. Sometimes, it feels like one thing after another, piling up until we’re completely overwhelmed. Once overwhelm sets in, everything feels heavy, and it can be hard to take any action. Personally, I balance being a business owner, practicing esthetician, Reiki Master, and teacher, all while trying to maintain my personal and social life. There are weeks when work tasks feel like too much, and other weeks when social commitments take over. Balancing this personal and professional scale is challenging but absolutely necessary.
So, how do I manage when I feel overwhelmed?
The first thing I do is take a step back—both physically and mentally. I pause and remove myself from the chaos. Changing my energy is key for me. Sometimes, that looks like taking a walk to clear my head or meditating. When I meditate while overwhelmed, I prefer guided meditations if in an overwhelmed state of mind; otherwise, my mind keeps spiraling even with calming music.
Another method I use is journaling—specifically rage writing (yes, I made up that term up). I grab a pen and paper and write furiously, not worrying about neatness or even being able to read it later. The goal is to release all the pent-up emotion, stress, and overwhelm from my system. It’s incredibly cathartic.
Ultimately, the strategy is to quiet the mind, however that may look. This may differ for everyone, and that’s okay. The point is to find what works for you and do it, consistently. I make a list of what I cannot control and I let it go by burning it or ripping it up.
Overwhelm often comes from trying to do too much—trying to be everything for everyone else while forgetting to take care of ourselves. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that our capacity is different from other people’s capacity. What works for someone else may not work for you, and that’s okay. It is also so important to carve time out for self-care. I always feel so overwhelmed when I skip my daily self-care routines.
Here is an example about different capacity’s: I once listened to a podcast by an inspiring author and speaker I admire. She shared a story about pulling an all-nighter to meet a writing deadline or possibly to finish the book in general, I don’t remember exactly but I remember thinking, wow, that would have been so overwhelming for me and sounds so miserable. Staying up all night to finish a task might work for some, but it’s not something I could do. My capacity is different. As someone with ADHD, my attention moves quickly from one task to another. Sitting at a computer all day focusing on one thing isn’t realistic for me. So, I had to find ways to accomplish my work and personal tasks that align with my mental health and capacity. That meant learning to make lists, breaking up certain longer tasks into a span of a few days or a few weeks, I had to get organized to help my mind focus on one thing at a time. I approach my days and each task with intention. Every morning, I take a moment to tune into my body and ask myself: How am I feeling today? What can I handle today? What is my intention(s) for today? From there, I intuitively decide what to take on that day. By taking these steps, I’ve found a way to navigate life’s challenges while staying true to myself and my well-being.
