We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lucy Beato. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lucy below.
Hi Lucy , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Developing confidence and self-esteem has been a journey shaped by both challenges and victories. One of the most defining moments in my life was coming to this country and starting school without knowing the language. It was incredibly difficult—I felt out of place, struggled to communicate, and faced bullying from classmates. Those experiences could have broken my spirit, but they also became the foundation for my growth.
Everything shifted when a teacher saw potential in me and gave me encouragement. That belief helped me take small steps forward. I learned English, started participating more in class, and eventually gained a sense of accomplishment from achieving the goals I set for myself. I realized that confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build by doing what you say you’re going to do.
Each small win gave me more incentive to take on bigger challenges.
I carried that lesson with me when I moved to Miami and stepped into the beauty industry—a field I knew nothing about at the time. Buying my salon felt overwhelming, but I took it one step at a time, setting clear goals and celebrating every achievement along the way. That sense of accomplishment gave me the confidence to aim even higher.
Today, I teach other women this same principle: confidence grows when you keep the promises you make to yourself. By doing the work, no matter how small, you build the belief that you’re capable of achieving so much more. And that’s how confidence becomes unstoppable
“Confidence is built by showing up for yourself, keeping the promises you make, and trusting in your ability to grow one step at a time.’

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and work! I’m a business coach and mentor passionate about helping women discover their potential, build confidence, and break through limiting beliefs. Through my Valor-Arte approach, I guide women to align their values, strengths, and purpose to achieve their dreams.
In addition to coaching, I mentor aspiring and established entrepreneurs, providing tools and strategies to build sustainable businesses. It’s incredibly rewarding to help women turn their ideas into reality, especially when they feel stuck or unsure where to start.
As a cancer survivor, I’m also deeply committed to raising awareness about the importance of early detection and sharing hope with those facing similar challenges. My memoir, I Had Killer Boobs, was a way to tell my story with humor, faith, and resilience. I’m thrilled to have recently launched the Spanish version, Tuve Pechos Mortales, so I can reach and inspire even more people.
At the core of everything I do is my mission to empower women to foster self-worth and live purposeful, fulfilling lives—both personally and professionally. Whether through coaching, mentoring, or sharing my journey, I hope to inspire others to see their value, embrace their potential, and go after the life they truly deserve.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been determination, discipline, and consistency.
Determination has been my anchor. It’s what kept me going when I faced challenges, whether it was moving to a new country, learning a new language, battling cancer, or navigating the ups and downs of running a business. My advice to others is to always remember your ‘why.’ When you have a clear purpose driving you, it becomes easier to push through difficult moments.
Discipline has been crucial in turning ideas into reality. There were countless days when I had to make tough choices—prioritizing work, learning new skills, or even taking care of my health—because I knew it was necessary for long-term success. For anyone early in their journey, I recommend creating a routine or system that aligns with your goals and sticking to it. Discipline builds habits, and habits create progress.
Finally, consistency is what ties everything together. Showing up every day, even when it feels like progress is slow, is what makes the difference over time. My advice is to focus on the small, daily steps instead of waiting for the ‘perfect moment.’ Those consistent efforts add up and lead to big results.
No matter where you are in your journey, these three qualities can take you far. Stay determined, stay disciplined, and most importantly, stay consistent. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s always worth the effort.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Throughout my personal development journey, I’ve been inspired by the stories and wisdom of many great leaders. But one book that truly made a huge difference in my life is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
This powerful book, rooted in ancient Toltec wisdom, offers four guiding principles for living a life of freedom and joy:
Be impeccable with your word – Speak with integrity, say only what you mean, and avoid using your words to hurt yourself or others.
Don’t take anything personally – Understand that what others do is a reflection of their reality, not yours. This principle has been so freeing for me in both personal and professional relationships.
Don’t make assumptions – Communicate clearly and ask questions instead of jumping to conclusions, which helps avoid misunderstandings.
Always do your best – Your best will change from day to day, but giving your all, no matter the circumstances, leads to fulfillment and self-respect.
These principles have become cornerstones of my daily life. They’ve helped me navigate challenges, improve relationships, and stay aligned with my values.
For anyone looking to simplify and elevate their approach to life, The Four Agreements is a must-read. And while we’re on the topic of great books, I’d also highly recommend another life-changing read: I Had Killer Boobs! It’s a story of resilience, humor, and overcoming challenges with just the right amount of sass to keep things interesting!
