Meet Zelossie

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zelossie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zelossie below.

Zelossie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
To be in a room, where you are the only one who you looks like you, truly allows you to step into your own autonomy in ways unimaginable. You’re learning to stand strong through all projections, real or imagined and to really decipher your role in that space. To be the only one in the room that looks like me lets me know that there is a ton of work to still be done in that profession and/or in that space. Because I take ownership and accountability for myself and the role my actions play in my life, I can more easily assess what I need to do for myself in those spaces or that which would make it easier for others that look like me to exist in that space. I feel empowered to be the person to bridge the gap. I guess that has more to do with the conviction of myself though.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My website is having its re-launch and there you are able to find all of my artistic endeavors. I recently moved a few months back, so there has been some changes and adjusting. Similarly, as I have taken the role as the Events Director at a prominent Golf course in Atlanta, all of my focus has gone into building up the Events department and putting the facility into the mix of the city. I took the role last year in late October and it has been the most rewarding. The possibilities are endless! While I work the field in one of my dream careers, I still work to make my other dreams happen. When my website re-launches back up, everyone will have access to purchase my portraits, paintings, and/or book consults.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The traits and qualities and/or characteristics, that I feel were most impactful in my journey are luckily those I have been naturally blessed with. 1. The genuine love, concern, and care of people. 2. The genuine belief that GREAT things are supposed to happen to me. 3. Only make moves when my heart is in it. 4. Being naturally curious by and interested in a lot of different things. My universal advice for anyone is to follow your bliss. To treat people with respect, patience, and dignity as you do so. To be patient and loving with yourself. To be honest at all times. To believe in the true goodness in this world and to take time seeking its healing powers.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Have my brothers! (laughs out loud)
