We were lucky to catch up with Jack Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jack, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic was shaped by two foundational experiences in my life: music and the culinary arts.
Being a musician from a young age taught me that there’s no faking it—you either put in the hours to refine your craft, or it shows. Practicing for hours on end, striving for precision, and continuously improving my performance instilled in me the discipline and dedication that now fuel my work in filmmaking. Just like in music, filmmaking requires technical skill, emotional storytelling, and the ability to adapt in real time.
Later, my years as a chef and my time in culinary school reinforced these lessons in a whole new way. Working in high-pressure kitchens taught me organization, patience, and the ability to problem-solve on the fly—all while maintaining a high standard of excellence. In both kitchens and on set, the success of a project depends on preparation, teamwork, and the ability to execute under pressure.
When I transitioned into filmmaking and co-founded Take Flight Cinema, these experiences became the foundation of how I approach every project. I bring that same relentless attention to detail, creative discipline, and commitment to delivering an exceptional final product—whether it’s capturing the perfect shot, telling a compelling story, or ensuring a seamless production experience for my clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
For years, I’ve been passionate about capturing stories through videography and photography, preserving moments in a way that truly resonates. When I met Chris Cole, a skilled Director of Photography, we knew our combined talents could create something special. After years of collaboration, we officially launched Take Flight Cinema, offering cinematic storytelling with a seamless client experience.
We specialize in corporate brand films, commercials, live events, and documentaries, bringing a keen eye for visuals, strong storytelling instincts, and a customer-first approach. Now, as we expand our offerings, we’re excited to help businesses and creatives tell their stories in a way that captivates and inspires.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three key qualities have been instrumental in shaping my journey: passion, tenacity, and customer service.
1. Passion
I’ve been fortunate to build a career doing something I truly love and obsess over. This passion keeps the work exciting and fresh, making the long hours and challenges feel less like a job and more like a craft I’m constantly refining. For those early in their journey, I’d say: find what excites you, lean into it, and never stop exploring ways to grow within it. Passion is the fuel that will drive you forward when things get tough.
2. Tenacity
Running a small business means obstacles will always come up—whether it’s creative roadblocks, logistical challenges, or the unpredictability of the industry. The only real option is to push through, adapt, and keep moving forward. That same tenacity has also been crucial in honing my craft—constantly learning, practicing, and evolving. My advice? Embrace the setbacks as lessons, stay persistent, and remember that consistency beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
3. Customer Service
At the end of the day, no matter how great the work is, it’s the client experience that keeps the business thriving. Creating a seamless, enjoyable process for clients and making sure they feel heard and valued is just as important as delivering a great final product. For those just starting out, I’d say: listen more than you talk, over-deliver when possible, and always prioritize relationships over transactions. Happy clients lead to long-term success.
For anyone starting their own journey, these three areas—passion, persistence, and people-first service—will make all the difference. Keep pushing forward, stay hungry to learn, and never lose sight of why you started!
How would you describe your ideal client?
At Take Flight Cinema, we work with a diverse range of clients, but our ideal partners share a common goal: they want to tell their story in a way that captivates, inspires, and resonates.
Some clients come to us with a clear vision of what they want—whether it’s a corporate brand film, engaging advertisement, live event coverage, documentary, or television production. We collaborate closely, refining their ideas and elevating them with our cinematic storytelling approach.
Others have no clue where to start, but they know they want to grow their brand, connect with their audience, or showcase their product or service in a compelling way. That’s where we thrive—guiding them through every step, from ideation to execution, and delivering a high-quality, visually stunning final product.
