Meet Hunter Sellier

We recently connected with Hunter Sellier and have shared our conversation below.

Hunter, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Being in love with what you do is more important than anything. I love being able to support underserved communities and give back to our neighborhoods. Growing up my mother and grandfather were a picturesque image of selflessness which bled into my day-to-day actions. Knowing I wanted to aid others in some capacity, I became involved with local nonprofits and service groups to find out where I belonged within public service. Upon moving to Atlanta, my passion to unhoused support grew along with my work ethic. Knowing that I could be the change I wanted to see motivated me to work harder, make more connections, and positively impact our community.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Don’t Lose Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which concentrates on mitigating underrepresented issues and providing the groundwork for growth in the unhoused community in Atlanta. Through on the ground, one-on-one support, we create connections within the city of Atlanta and strive to wholly understand and work with individuals on becoming the best versions of themselves. Our mission is to supply essentials, warmth, and guidance to our local community, drawing from the generosity of our donors and volunteers, to foster growth in our neighborhood and provide opportunities for reintegration. From haircuts and free showers to a hot meal and a listening ear, we strive to be the outstretched hand to make connections in our community. What started in 2020 with necessity bags and coffee served from the back of my car on Marietta Street from what little savings I had, with the support of generous donors, volunteers, and other nonprofits, has been incorporated as a 501(c)(3) and is progressing toward established shelters and rehabilitation opportunities for anyone struggling with navigating life’s obstacles.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

This is a tough question, as I feel like I’m only just beginning my nonprofit work and still learning the ins and outs of the system. When I was first starting to serve the community, using social media to connect with neighbors and local community members to gather donations and find volunteers was essential. Additionally, reaching out to corporations for donations doesn’t hurt! When I first started, everything came out of pocket. Throughout time I have learned that some companies, local and large, have an equal desire to support the community. Engaging with the business can positively impact the people you serve and what you are able to provide! Lastly, be ready to learn. Working with the community is an ever-changing process and there is so much to learn from a public service perspective, and in the eyes of our community. Learning from people you meet, other nonprofits, and business, is crucial to making to connections and expanding your work!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Hi neighbors! We are looking to partner with local nonprofits and shelters to host more service day events and provide more support to the community. From free showers, mobile medics, and barbers to volunteers to organize, fundraise, and serve, we can always use an extra hand and are continuously looking to make connections!
