Meet Jason Houser

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jason Houser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose through a deliberate and relentless commitment to creating habits that would help me hear the unfiltered truth of my heart. In 2014, I was suffocating—dying on the inside while trapped in a business I co-owned with my brother. On the surface, we had everything—money flowing in at an almost unreal pace—but beneath that, I was unraveling. We did not align. The relationship was toxic, a relentless cycle of control and emotional turmoil, and no amount of financial success could numb the truth: If I stayed, I would lose myself completely.

Leaving wasn’t just a business decision; it was survival. It was life or death.

Walking away from the family business meant stepping into the unknown with nothing but faith in myself. Instead of searching for another job, I made a radical choice—one that most would call reckless. I decided that my full-time job would be personal growth and self-discovery. I wanted to test the idea that our internal world is what truly shapes our external reality.

That decision changed everything.

I immersed myself in daily habits that rewired my mind—writing down goals, challenging my thoughts, and shifting my perspective to one that was more productive, more expansive. Slowly, I felt myself coming back to life. And in the stillness of that self-work, I stumbled upon a profound truth:

My purpose was to be myself.

Not a version of myself that met expectations. Not a carefully curated image. Just me. Fully, unapologetically me.

That realization was like standing at the bow of a great ship, wind in my face, staring out at the vastness of the ocean—my own life, finally mine to navigate. I let go of everything I had been told, every outside expectation, and just listened. And for the first time, I could truly hear the voice of my own heart. It had been whispering all along, but now it was clear, strong, undeniable.

That was the moment I felt purpose—not as an external achievement, but as an internal alignment. My life was no longer something happening to me. I was participating. I was creating. And I have never turned back.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I left the family business in pursuit of something far more valuable than money—freedom and autonomy. Walking away was one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. It meant turning my back on financial security and stepping into the unknown, but it also meant stepping into my story—onto my own hero’s journey, where I could finally create a life that felt true to me.

I still remember sitting at the meat company, staring at my regular paycheck, gripped by fear. The thought of leaving felt impossible, like standing on the edge of a cliff with no way to see the ground below. But something deeper called me forward, a quiet but insistent voice reminding me that there was more for me beyond those walls.

The past ten years have been more adventurous and creatively fulfilling than I ever could have imagined back then. I committed to working on my inner world—on how I thought about life, opportunity, and success—and in doing so, everything changed.

Since leaving, I have written and published several personal development books that I am deeply proud of. I have also found a profound passion for creating Hero’s Journey-inspired art, visual representations of the adventure that my life has become. Every morning, I wake up with excitement, knowing that I am now living what I once only dreamed of. There’s an immense sense of fulfillment in witnessing my past visions materialize into reality.

Beyond my creative work, I began investing in real estate as a passive investor, and to date, I’ve completed over 20 deals. But those numbers are just the surface—the real treasure has been the internal transformation. Over the years, I have trained myself to live with deep peace and contentment, cultivated through simple but powerful daily habits: writing gratitude cards, reflecting on success, and journaling. These small acts have compounded into an unshakable sense of trust in life.

I am more open than I have ever been. Fear no longer dictates my decisions. I have learned the patience to wait for opportunities rather than chase them, knowing that the right ones always find me. It is an extraordinary way to live.

Today, I continue to mastermind with others, always seeking to build people up and foster growth in my community. I channel my skills in writing and imagination into art, books, and even the landscapes of my own property. My life is a living, breathing creation—one that I actively shape every day.

And to think, it all started with a single, terrifying choice: to leave.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The Three Keys That Transformed My Life
Understanding the Law of Growth
Mastermind Partnerships
The Power of Written Goals and Focus
These three principles have been the foundation of my transformation—guiding me from a place of frustration and limitation to a life of intention and fulfillment.

The Law of Growth: What We Focus On Expands
For years, I was trapped in resentment, hating where I worked—even though it was a business I owned. My mind was consumed with everything I didn’t want, everything that drained me. And what happened? It all grew. My misery deepened, my exhaustion intensified, and the walls of that life closed in tighter.

It wasn’t until I left that I truly understood the Law of Growth. I had heard it before—what we think about, we bring about—but now, I was living proof of it. Once I redirected my focus toward what I actually wanted instead of what I resented, my entire world began to shift.

And the change wasn’t gradual—it was explosive. Like a snowball rolling downhill, every small step of positive focus gained momentum, propelling me forward. I began to see tangible results, proof that our thoughts are not passive—they are the architects of our reality.

My advice? Guard your thoughts fiercely. Pay attention to what you dwell on. If you focus on problems, they multiply. If you focus on possibilities, they expand. Train your mind to envision the life you desire, not the one you fear. In the end, your thoughts are the only thing you truly control.

Mastermind Partnerships: The Power of Allies on the Hero’s Journey
In every great hero’s journey, the moment you step over the threshold into the unknown, mentors and allies appear. And I can say with complete certainty—this is true.

When I finally found the courage to leave the family business, I wasn’t alone. Though I had spent years feeling trapped and isolated, believing I had to figure everything out myself, the moment I made the leap, the right people showed up.

I had a counselor, financial advisor, lawyer, and CPA—each of them guiding me through crucial steps, helping me navigate my way to freedom. But it was Laura, my counselor, who was the catalyst. She helped me break free from the abusive cycle I had been trapped in for years. It was a slow, painful unraveling of deep-seated fears and conditioned beliefs, but with her support, I found my way out.

I used to believe that I had to do everything alone. That was the mindset I was conditioned into. But I was wrong. We are not meant to do this alone.

We all need allies—people we can be completely real with, who support us, challenge us, and help us see beyond our blind spots. A true mastermind partnership is built on authenticity and trust. And once I broke free from my old environment, I was amazed to discover just how many incredible people exist in this world, ready to walk alongside us on our hero’s journey.

Keep your heart open, and you will find them.

The Power of Written Goals: Definite Major Purpose Statement
In 2014, I made a decision that would shape the rest of my life. I wrote a Definite Major Purpose (DMP) statement—a clear, powerful declaration of what I wanted to achieve.

It had four SMART goals, written in the present tense and framed in a positive tone. But I didn’t just write it and forget it. I read it aloud three times a day, every single day, with enthusiasm. And I never missed. NEVER.

For nine years, I ingrained those words into my subconscious, and today, I have not only achieved what I wrote down—I have surpassed it many times over.

And I haven’t stopped. I still have a DMP, along with other documents I read daily to keep my mind focused and aligned with my dreams. Because here’s the truth:

Nothing happens without focus.

The world is filled with knowledge, but knowledge without application is useless. The key is focus—the discipline to direct our minds toward what we want, over and over, until it becomes reality.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

In 2014, I took a class called The Master Key Experience, and to say it was transformational would be an understatement. It didn’t just change my life—it reshaped my entire way of being.

This course wasn’t just another personal development program. It was a blueprint for mastering the mind, for living a truly self-directed life. Created by my friend Mark Januszewski, it brought together timeless principles in a way that finally clicked for me. It was as if the missing puzzle pieces of my life snapped into place, revealing a path I had never fully seen before.

I threw myself into it with everything I had—100% commitment, no hesitation, no excuses. And what happened next left me speechless.

I didn’t just learn new habits. I became someone new.

I transformed the way I thought, the way I made decisions, the way I saw myself. The life I once only imagined—the one I carefully designed in my mind in 2014—is now the life I wake up to every single day. There is no doubt. No hesitation. I am living the dream I created—down to the finest details.

But beyond external success, the deepest shift was internal. This course taught me to love and accept myself in a way I never knew was possible. It freed me from the idea that happiness was something waiting in the future and showed me how to live happily now—fully, unapologetically, in the present moment.

Because of the person I became through this work, my life has expanded beyond what I thought was possible. I’ve made millions, shattered personal records, deepened my relationships, and learned to love harder than ever before. But the greatest gift isn’t the accomplishments—it’s the sense of peace, purpose, and power that now define my everyday existence.

It’s difficult to put into words what this course has done for me. But what I can say is this:

When you commit fully to personal mastery, when you consistently apply the right habits, when you step into the highest version of yourself—there are no limits.

And for that, I will always be grateful.
