Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Grettel Pretell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Grettel , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from all my experiences, the good, the bad, the difficult. It makes me a wiser and more patient person, and I understand that everything in life passes and leaves us with learning, and that’s where I become stronger.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Grettel, I’m a Peruvian artist based in Miami, Florida. I’ve been tattooing for 4 years, and art has been a part of my life forever, from painting to illustrating children’s books. Art is in my blood. I opened my own tattoo studio a year ago, and I’m grateful to all my clients and followers who have supported me from the beginning. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, being my own boss. Something special I’ve done as an artist is giving back to those in need. I started ‘The Flourish Project’, where I tattoo women who have undergone breast cancer surgery, covering their scars for free. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the impact it has on these women’s lives. You can learn more about me and my work on my social media or website: @inkbygrettel or inkbygrettel.com
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, the most important things are humility and patience. Without humility, no matter how excellent an artist you are, you won’t go far if you don’t know how to treat those around you. Patience has been a key word for me, as my process hasn’t been easy, but with patience, I understood that you can go far and enjoy the process, not just focusing on the final result, because that’s where we get frustrated. And lastly, practice – practice makes perfect. Being consistent and, above all, putting passion into what you do.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My close friends, people who, when they saw me at my lowest, lifted me up and told me that everything would pass. I’ll always be grateful to Genesis, Abel, and Stephen.
