Meet Marcus Davila

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcus Davila. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcus below.

Marcus, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

As a Mexican American in the Film Industry our Ethic group is underrepresented in the United Staes and has made my journey inspiring to others who are Latino like me. I don’t have any Filmmakers in my family, I don’t know any personally, but still chose to learn the craft and begin my career by putting forth the best films I can. Being the only Latino in the room has never dissuaded me from pursuing my goals. My ethnicity is a part of me but doesn’t define me or my talents and capabilities. I’m a Navy veteran and went to a top secret school to be trained at for my job and I was in the minority there as well and learned I would be judged on my talents not the color of my skin. I carried those experiences into my life and have felt that just because someone that looks like me hasn’t done it before doesn’t mean it can’t be done by me or someone who looks like me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a Navy Veteran who has chosen to make a career in Filmmaking along with my wife Sabrina Trevino. Together we opened LionsAct Productions in 2022 and have been making films, commercials, and various media projects since then. I have been interested in creating films since I was a child and found it magical how people could create something so magnificent that it immerses you into the film. My goal was to create impactful films that would be in a persons mind weeks, months, and hopefully years after they watch it. I want to bring some unknown and undiscovered talent to the mainstream. I feel our films are projects that inspire interest and have a message that is important. I’m a Father of 3 boys and inspiring them to shoot for their dreams and goals in something I feel very strongly about. I do my best to show them that any goal is achievable with hard work and dedication. My parents fostered these mantras into me and I want to do the same for the next generation. I recently spoke at a Church Youth group about how I got into making films with no background in it and it was received well and some kids even wanted to act in our projects coming up. I want to live a life where I help as many people as I can and achieve goals I have set with my family along the way. Being famous isn’t a goal for me, being a great person that inspires is. I have a feature film coming out this year called “The American Coyote” about a young boy who is trapped into a life where his only chance at survival is to become a human trafficker. I feel this film is something different where people will see life from the perspective of a human trafficker never seen before.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities I feel helped me are being resourceful, being dedicated to my goals, and never being afraid to trail blaze a new path. I have turned friends into actors and producers on our projects and used networking to gain assets and locations others would normally have to pay for saving money for our film in the end. Network your goals into existence there is always someone who can help you acheive your goals faster you just have to find that person and make sure your friendship is genuine so they assist you. Be ready to assist them in turn as well life is a long road and you can only tap the well so many times before it’s your turn to fill it. Setting your mind on a goal is simple, remaining dedicated to that goal is a little harder. You don’t have to spend every waking moment pushing towards your goals but it you push the bar everyday a little further you’re doing something measurable and bringing the goal closer everyday day. Try no to overwork yourself cause you’ll burn yourself out and will end up trying to find an easier goal just to be successful. Don’t be afraid to lead the way. If you truly believe you can complete something in your heart don’t allow anyone to stop you from achieving it. I know it’s easier said than done but you are special and can do anything you set your mind to!!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did was support me in every single one of my endeavors. I have sold lemonade as a pre-teen from my yard my mother made and helped me set up. I began a landscaping business with the tools my parents had at their home and went around the neighborhood cutting lawns and raking leaves. I have done many jobs over the years and the one constant has been support from my parents. They have shared my film trailer and spoke to their friends about my films coming, and done their best to be a part of every goal I have set by supporting me in any way they can. I do the same for my children and feel their confidence in me has made every goal I set forth appear achievable.
