We recently connected with Anna Feeney and have shared our conversation below.
Anna , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome has been a real journey of learning to trust myself and my abilities. For a long time, I felt like I was just “winging it” or waiting for someone to tell me I was good enough, but I realized the real key was acknowledging those feelings and not letting them hold me back. I started celebrating my little wins, no matter how small, and gave myself credit for how far I’ve come, especially as a mom juggling everything.
Connecting with mentors and moms in this field who had been through similar struggles really helped me realize that imposter syndrome often shows up when I’m pushing myself beyond my comfort zone—and that’s okay. Instead of letting self-doubt hold me back, I’ve learned to embrace it as part of the journey, focusing on my own path and what feels right for me and my family.
Taking action—even when I’m scared—has helped me prove to myself that I’m more than capable and absolutely deserving of the things I’ve worked for. Overcoming imposter syndrome isn’t about getting rid of the doubt completely; it’s about not letting it stop me from moving forward and claiming my space.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a photographer passionate about capturing life’s most authentic moments— whether through portraits, family shoots, or events. What excites me most about photography is connecting with my clients and creating images that truly reflect who they are. It’s not just about beautiful pictures; it’s about telling a unique story and capturing real emotions.
Building strong relationships with my clients is one of my favorite parts of the process. Understanding their vision and helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera leads to photos that truly represent them. I love how the experience becomes memorable, fun, and personal for everyone involved.
Something I’m really excited about is expanding my event photography services! I’ve had the privilege of capturing some amazing celebrations, and I’m thrilled to be offering more of these opportunities to my clients. Whether it’s an intimate celebration or a promotional event, being a part of those moments is such an honor, and I can’t wait to bring even more creative energy to these shoots.
If you’re looking for a photographer who values connection and authenticity, I’d love to work with you and help make your moments something you can hold on to!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey as a photographer and mom have been creativity, adaptability, and self-confidence.
Creativity is the heartbeat of everything I do. It’s what keeps me inspired, and it’s always evolving. My advice to anyone starting out? Don’t be afraid to push the limits of your creativity. Experiment with new angles, lighting, and concepts—let your passion lead the way. The more you try, the more you’ll discover your unique style.
Adaptability has been a huge factor in balancing my roles as a mom and a photographer. Things don’t always go as planned—whether it’s a last-minute change to a shoot or a toddler’s unexpected tantrum—but being able to pivot quickly and stay calm under pressure has made all the difference. My tip? Stay flexible and embrace the unexpected. The best moments often come from what you didn’t plan for.
And self-confidence has been huge. There were plenty of moments where I doubted myself—especially as a mom trying to juggle so many things — but I’ve learned to trust my skills and believe in my vision. My advice to those just starting out? Own your worth, trust your process, and remember that every mistake is just part of the journey. You’re growing, and that’s what matters!
For anyone just starting, my biggest piece of advice is to stay curious and patient with yourself. The journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep learning, be kind to yourself, and celebrate every little victory along the way. You’ve got this!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some of the most talented and experienced photographers in the game—Mark, Stephen, Derek, and Toni at The Photo Pros. They’ve been in my corner from the start, guiding me every step of the way. They’re not just talented at this beautiful art and what they do, but they also have this incredible ability to push me past my comfort zone, helping me grow and challenge myself in so many ways.
What’s been so impactful is how they’ve helped me recognize my strengths and embrace them, while also reminding me that weaknesses are just opportunities for growth—not something to dwell on. They’ve created an environment where I feel comfortable experimenting, failing, and learning. I feel so lucky to have such a supportive and knowledgeable team around me—every day is a new chance to learn and improve, and I’m beyond grateful for all the wisdom and skills they share with me!
