Meet Zoey Chen

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zoey Chen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Zoey, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Keeping my creativity alive as a wedding florist involves a mix of inspiration, continuous learning, and self-care. Here’s what helps me stay creatively energized:

1. Seeking Inspiration Everywhere
I find inspiration in nature, art, fashion, and even architecture. Observing colors, textures, and movement in the world around me sparks new ideas. Traveling, whether near or far, exposes me to different floral styles, cultural aesthetics, and unique design perspectives.

2. Learning & Experimenting
I stay updated with floral trends and techniques by attending workshops, watching master florists, and trying out new styles. Experimenting with unexpected flower combinations, color palettes, and arrangements keeps my work fresh and exciting.

3. Listening to Clients’ Stories
Each couple’s unique love story and vision push me to create something special and meaningful for them.
The emotional impact my work has on people fuels my passion and reminds me why I love doing this.

Creativity isn’t just about making something beautiful—it’s about staying curious, open-minded, and connected to the emotions behind the work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Zoey, a wedding florist. My journey into floristry started as a personal epiphany during a return trip to Taiwan, where I reconnected with my passion for flowers. After training in London, I developed my artistry and craft floral experiences that are as unique as the couples I work with.

What excites me most about my work is the emotional connection it creates. Each arrangement is not just about flowers—it’s about telling a story, evoking feelings, and making a moment truly unforgettable. From lush arches to elegant centerpieces, I strive to create pieces that resonate deeply with my clients, leaving lasting impressions on their special day.

Recently, I’ve been focusing on incorporating more sustainable practices in my work, from sourcing locally grown flowers to minimizing waste in my designs. I believe that beauty and responsibility can go hand in hand, and I want my brand to reflect that ethos.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey as a wedding florist, three key qualities and skills have had the biggest impact on my growth:

1. Adaptability & Problem-Solving
In the wedding industry, things rarely go exactly as planned—flowers may arrive in the wrong shade, weather conditions may change, or last-minute client requests may arise. Being able to adapt quickly and find creative solutions is essential.

2. Strong Design & Artistic Vision
Floristry is more than arranging flowers—it’s about understanding color theory, balance, and movement to create something visually stunning. Developing a keen eye for design and staying inspired is key to standing out.

3. Emotional Intelligence & Client Communication
A wedding florist doesn’t just provide flowers; they bring someone’s vision to life for one of the most important days of their life. Understanding emotions, managing expectations, and building trust with clients is crucial.

For anyone starting out, I’d say: Be patient, stay curious, and never stop learning. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and every project teaches you something new. Passion and perseverance will take you further than you can imagine!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who truly values the artistry and emotion behind floral design. They see flowers as more than just decorations—they understand their power to transform a space, set the mood, and tell a story.

– Appreciates Unique & Modern Designs – They are open to creative floral concepts rather than sticking to traditional, cookie-cutter styles. They trust my artistic vision and get excited about fresh, innovative ideas.

– Trusts the Creative Process – While they may have a vision, they allow room for creativity. They trust me to make design decisions based on seasonality, color harmony, and overall aesthetic impact.

– Values Quality & Personalization – Instead of just looking for the lowest price, they care about the details, craftsmanship, and personalization that go into creating stunning floral pieces.

– Enjoys a Collaborative Approach – They see wedding florals as a partnership and are excited to work together to bring their dream wedding to life. They communicate openly and enjoy the process rather than stressing over every minor detail.

I love working with couples who are passionate about creating a wedding that reflects their personality and emotions. If they trust in the magic of flowers and allow creativity to shine, we’re the perfect match!
