Meet Vivian Nguyen

We recently connected with Vivian Nguyen and have shared our conversation below.

Vivian, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from both of my parents. My parents have six kids and they were able to raise and provide for us the best that they could with what they had. They both worked graveyard shifts growing up and still managed to have quality time as a family. To this day my parents are still very hard-working. My mom works seven days a week at two different jobs and my dad still works graveyard but at a different company. They have taught me that if there’s something I want in life I would have to work hard to get it for myself instead of relying on others. I have been a nail technician for 13 years, and have branched off to opening my own business as a private nail technician for a year now . I have two kids who are both fairly young. I work hard to provide the best life that I can for them just like what my parents did for me and my siblings.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I have been a nail technician for 13 years. I started my own business a little over a year now. The best part about my career is getting to know new clients, and building a relationship that eventually turns into a friendship. getting your nails done isn’t just flapping some polish onto the fingernails. I specialize in nail art and my clients are my walking canvases. The relationships I have created with my clients are really special to me. It shows that the trust has been built between us, and it makes me feel good about myself because they continue to come back and put their trust in me to make them feel good about themselves. My clients leave happy and it makes me happy!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

There is always room for improvement, stay optimistic and to never give up! Being in the nail industry, it’s always hard to keep up with the nail trends. There have been times where it was hard for me to learn a new technique, I would have to sit down after hours or find time during my work week to learn a new technique to keep up with the trends that were trending. It’s hard for me to say no to a client that wanted a specific nail art, and I would have to do my research or even ask my other friends in the nail industry on ways to achieve that specific nail art. I just feel like it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in a career field, there will be times where you just hit little bumps in the road. I always tell myself to keep my head up and that everything always works out in the end!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My boyfriend and business partner have always been my biggest supporters. There have been times where I couldn’t figure stuff out whether it be a nail design or speaking to a client or just resolving issues with a client, and my boyfriend and business partner would be the people I would turn to.
