Meet Damarrus Grant

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Damarrus Grant. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Damarrus , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I keep my creativity alive immersing myself into small projects that provide thrilling challenges that take me outside of my comfort zone. For me, the gift to create is my escape and keeps life colorful. I also observe what is being created around me. I study artist that create in different fields; constantly searching for something that has been exceptionally made, crafted, or produced. I study the techniques of an artist, their passion, and inspirations, which inspire me to create things that I’m interested in. Allowing myself to be inspired by the creativity of others, keeps creativity alive in me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. I made an indie film, “Diane” about a devious property manager who terrorizes her tenants. The film is a horror/thriller with a blaxploitation twist. The film is extremely funny and I had the privilege of making it with friends and family. In my opinion, the film is a “Home Movie”. The film has been distributed on streaming platforms and can be seen on Apple TV, Prime Video and Tubi. Every filmmaker aspires to continue their journey of making films. I believe this is in the realm of possibility for me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe the three qualities that were the most impactful in my journey were:

1. Passion or a having a burning desire
2. Mastering the fundamentals of my craft.
3. Never giving up

My advise to folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these is, figure out what it is you have a passion or a burning desire to do, master the fundamentals or skills needed to be the best in that field, and never quit or give up when things get tough. When you are in the process of improving in these areas, failure is inevitable, but the key is to fail forward.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I am looking for folks to partner and collaborate with. I have interest in quality people. I would like to work the people, who are kind, resourceful, and solution minded, who demonstrate good character. Ideally, I would also like to partner with people who are interested in the service of others and move with a sense of urgency. Lastly, I’d like to partner with people who can demonstration a sense of commitment and dedication. I believe these are excellent qualities to look for in partnerships/collaborators.
