We recently connected with Emeka Amafor and have shared our conversation below.
Emeka , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self esteem at an early age. Remember those birthday parties as a kid where you have to dance in front of an audience to win a prize, I was the star every time. Being in the spot light comes naturally because I believe no one is paying attention to me and if they are, I give them a captivating performance lol. In my role as a wedding photographer i pretty much spend my entire day in front of people, continuously engaging with them.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a 30-year-old self-taught wedding photographer from Delta State, Asaba. Growing up, I lost my father at a young age and was raised by my mother. As the youngest of six siblings, I often got away with a lot lmao – ‘Bedge’ was a nickname that stuck from my secondary school days. Today, it has become a household brand name that I am proud of.
Photography has always been a passion of mine, sparked by the simple sight of a phone camera as a kid to purchasing my first professional camera in 2014. I found my calling in wedding photography because of my deep love for Love and the captivating idea of two souls uniting as one. I believe that to capture genuine emotions, one must truly understand love.
Committed to revolutionizing the way Nigerian weddings are documented, my work has gained recognition and awards from around the world, showcasing our unique approach. We are dedicated to capturing the essence of love in its purest form.
My future is film. I don’t know how it’s going to happen but it will!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Important qualities to embody in your journey as a photographer are humility, confidence, and consistency.
Remember that learning is a lifelong process, so stay humble and acknowledge that there is always more to discover.
Be confident in advocating for yourself and your work, and strive to make your presence as a photographer respected and valued. We still have a stereotype hovering around us lol. (Just a cameraman?)
Consistency is key in your craft. Repetition and practice can transform tasks into second nature.
Developing strong people skills is also crucial, particularly for wedding photography. Building a bond and putting people at ease will enhance your ability to create beautiful art with your clients
These are skills that can be cultivated, with consistency as your teacher
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Oh yes! The Bedge brand is growing at an exponential pace and we’re open to new partnerships. Someone ready to share our vision and bring new ideas onboard. Im one email away [email protected]
