Meet Felecity Havens

We recently connected with Felecity Havens and have shared our conversation below.

Felecity , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I realized a long time ago that the easiest thing for me to be is myself. I also think it is very easy to be yourself when you believe in yourself. I know that sounds cliche but, my authenticity is my superpower. The things that make me different are the things that make me special, valuable and one of a kind. So I stay true to that.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

It’s hard to pinpoint “what I do” because I wear many hats on a day to day basis but, let’s start with my clothing brand called “Thirdx a Charm”. As the Founder and Creative Director of Thirdx a Charm, our mission is to empower people to overcome their challenges and form a community where individuals can connect based on shared experiences.

The name Thirdx a Charm stems from the lessons we’ve learned through the “losses” in our life. Throughout our journey we will all make mistakes but, seeing your loss as a lesson is the healthiest way to move forward. Think of it as earning a badge after you’ve faced a hard test. It wasn’t easy but, you made it out, and earned it too. Most of the time most growth requires some type of hardship. For me personally my whole life is a product of the challenges I’ve faced and the way Ive decided to look at them. I believe that we all will face some kind of challenge in this life and it’s all about the way that you look at it that’ll determine how you come out of it.

At the moment TXC mainly consists of streetwear garments like t-shirts, hats, hoodies and other things of that nature but, we are mainly known for the messages that we push through our products. We are committed to creating products that inspire, motivate, and support individuals on their journey towards personal growth and transformation.

Recently we had the privilege of curating a 7-piece collection in partnership with Xhibition, an esteemed retailer based in Cleveland, Ohio. Xhibition is renowned as one of the nation’s premier destinations for high-end streetwear and luxury brands, housing an exquisite selection in their stores. We launched the collection in our normal fashion by hosting a pop up shop in their store. We wanted to create a welcoming and intimate experience for our community to connect with one another. We currently have our pieces available for purchase and on the shelves in their brick and mortar, located in Van Aken District.

This experience for me has truly been a turning point. From a creative and business perspective it has shown me truly what I am capable of, while at the same time shown me the things I need to sharpen and give more attention to. Ive never done a collection of this size, with this much graphic work, this much planning, with this many pieces. I am truly grateful for this experience and its only made me better and prepared me for greater. I welcome all challenges because on the other side is guaranteed growth, no matter the outcome.

Before the summer is over you can expect a few more small capsule collections from TXC and a few more pop up shops. We plan to do a pop up in Wilmington, NC and another in Ohio. We also plan to make a-lot more things live and accessible online so that people from all over can purchase our products. Thank you to everyone who has supported us up to this point, lets continue to grow through this life together.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My three best qualities/skills or areas of knowledge…. I think that my ability to adapt is by far the best quality that I have. I understand that the skill that got me through last week may not get me through this week, this week may require me to tap into something I haven’t yet accessed or even knew that I possessed. And so my ability to reinvent myself, adapt and rise to the occasion is something I would say has helped me overtime. I think that is the best advice I could give someone who is trying to improve or see growth. Do not get too comfortable with where you are and do not be afraid of discomfort.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
This answer is for all of my creative folks. Do not think that your creative ability by itself is enough to “keep the lights on”. If you want to live off your art, you must also recognize that that your art is not just art, it’s also a business. And if you don’t desire to be a business woman/man then make sure that you are well rounded and fairly knowledgable of all the things you’d hire someone else to do. Cross your t’s and dot your i’s.
