We were lucky to catch up with Alex Cordova recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alex, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I never really thought about this personally, but many interesting questions have been raised throughout various topics. One question that I often get asked in public, at work, during gigs, and by family and friends is where I find the drive and ability to keep my mind focused despite the circumstances and everything happening around me.
I was just discussing this with some friends recently and realized this is the perfect place to express my feelings.
Let me share a story about my life that I don’t often discuss, even with those closest to me. As a teenager, I faced a difficult period during my middle school and part of my high school years. I was bullied for being an outsider by my classmates and other students. This happened when I moved to Mexico, and I didn’t have much support. I often felt abandoned and didn’t have a true friend to help me through tough situations. I experienced physical bullying and was made to feel hated by my classmates and others in the town where I was living.
Despite everything, I eventually realized that no matter what I did—whether right or wrong—I was going to be judged. A pivotal moment in my life taught me that I should find happiness in what I do, and if the path I’m on feels right, it means I’m doing something correctly in the face of those challenges.
In middle school, I understood that many of my peers weren’t receiving the attention they needed at home, and they were projecting their frustrations onto someone else. I chose to forgive those who hurt me, recognizing that their actions reflected their struggles. From that point on, I realized that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if I can listen and offer a helping hand, I can make a difference. This understanding is one of the key reasons why I remain optimistic.
One significant reason for my resilience is that I’ve lost many good friends and pets due to tragic circumstances. Even today, the pain of those losses lingers. I often think of them cheering me on from somewhere, listening to me during my toughest moments, and providing me with the best advice to keep moving forward. Their support inspires me to maintain a positive attitude because I know people are rooting for me to keep pushing myself and pursue the goals I’ve always dreamed of.
Music is a big influence in my life. Techno, with its complexity, plays a crucial role in defining future trends and counterculture. It consistently lifts my spirits and motivates me, filling me with excitement for new ideas and the inspiration to write them down!
My parents and sisters are my biggest supporters because they believe in everything I do. Additionally, my good friends have been cheering me on as well. Their encouragement fuels my motivation and pushes me to go even further. This is one of the many sources of optimism in my life that enhances my drive.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
About myself? What I do, I’d love to tell you what I do!
First of all, I am a Techno DJ/Producer or just simply a Techno Artist. Like everyone who has the chance to meet me, I always talk about counterculture and how Techno was once known as the music of the future and counterculture. I’m passionate about my career and everything I do about it.
The best part of music is the way it can be expressed. Often, I find it complex when listening to it as everyday music. However, the moment you experience it live, that’s when the magic truly happens. You can see why I love it so much; I emphasize the journey, storytelling, and, most importantly, the expression of emotions through intricate sounds. Watching people smile and get lost in the music always makes me emotional, and it feels even better when I play my original tracks. The genuine reactions from the crowd always get me excited and touched.
On the other hand, I also manage social media and constantly plan the next steps. This is all connected to my dedication to music production. The software I’ve fallen in love with is Ableton Live. That’s where the magic and the journey begin.
Apart from that, I’m always pushing a new sound and always creating new stories I want to share with all of you!
I have some exciting news to share! First, I’m thrilled to announce that I will be releasing my debut EP, “THE REVOLUTION,” on February 1st. Additionally, I’m very happy to be supporting Greg Downey on February 14th. Make sure to mark your calendars because things are only going to get better from here!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I were to sit down and look back at what are the three areas of knowledge that impacted me would be these.
1. Discipline has kept my mind focused, which is why I am strict about following my goals. I teach myself that I must achieve my dreams.
2. Manifesting has shifted my mindset; if I commit to it, I will make it happen by pursuing and pushing myself.
3. Locked in the moment I set foot on something, I know there’s a point of no return and I’ll have to accept what goes with it and what it’ll get me through.
These are some things that got me to where I am: teach yourself to do things with no excuse, and you’ll make it happen. Like everything in life, there are ups and downs to everything, and it’s up to you to either make something happen or not make anything happen at all. Everything goes down with your mindset and how much you want everything to happen. If you look at these things, the sooner you can, the easier you can achieve your goals will be. This will include how you save your money and how you view things when communicating about yourself.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
This might be my favorite question from the selection right now.
It is debatable whether to invest effort in strengths or in improving areas; it is up to the individual’s determination.
I could go ahead and easily say go with all the strengths you have. But that can get you so far, so I think it’s more of a balance. This is how I’ll do it or put it in a story from my perspective and why balancing these two things is important instead of focusing on one thing.
I used to believe that my skills as a DJ and my public presence would only take me so far. While these aspects are important, they only represent a part of my journey. My strength lies in the effort I put into my shows; I always give my all to ensure that everyone has a great time and experiences a journey along with me. However, I also have a deep desire to improve my music production skills and create a unique take on music, which requires dedicated effort.
This can be challenging because everyone has the right to choose their own path in life. It’s essential to start with your strengths, but if opportunities arise to learn additional skills and develop those areas, it can lead to even greater success.
By embracing this approach, I continue to perform shows and showcase my presence both publicly and on social media, while simultaneously learning and creating my own music. I’m grateful for the support of my producer friends, who inspire me and share valuable tips and tricks along the way. It is possible to pursue multiple passions at once; it ultimately depends on the individual. I believe that self-discipline and determination are key!
