Meet Karvon Owens

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Karvon Owens. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Karvon below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Karvon with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic comes from my mom! My mom was always a hustler and instilled that in me at a young age. I remember we would go to Sam’s Club to get candy, chips, soda, juice and ice cream snicker bars to sell in our neighborhood, on the school bus and at school.

Every year, two-four weeks before the Fourth of July, we sold fireworks to everybody in my neighborhood. My Mom, my brother and I would jump in the car and drive to get Fireworks City in Alton, Illinois to buy fireworks to bring back to the neighborhood to sell. My mom came up with the idea when I was a kid to make extra money. She knew people would buy them because a lot of people didn’t have cars to drive to get the fireworks. She had a $25, $50, $100, $150 and $200 firework bags for sell. Our front and back door was constantly being banged on ALL day every day for snacks or fireworks.

I took the hard work, go getter and hustler mentality from watching my mom work extremely hard every single day..

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Karvon Owens, I’m an entrepreneur, I’m 29 years old and I’m from St. Louis!

I recently dropped my first book called Don’t K.O. October 25th, 2024 on Amazon! In the book I share a wealth of knowledge beyond my years that immediately connects to a struggling generation of youth. Offering a much-needed voice in an age where most are screaming nonsense, my life experiences are expressed so well that they will make you feel you were there watching me grow up in the inner city of St. Louis. I tell my story so detailed that shares personal connections with his childhood family, friends, enemies and role models. Each chapter will make you believe you’ve walked the streets, met the same famous athletes that I have or realized my incredible dream.
Not many can boast of being a world traveler at my age, but I take you along to see the sights and participate in my interesting episodes.

A millennial influencer who is the young brother you point to as “going somewhere great” in life. This multi-talented young man takes every experience seriously, including music, sports and fashion. It’s quite remarkable that I found my purpose in life so early to act as a beacon to those roaming aimlessly on this planet. No task, job or obligation was wasted in my childhood. I learned to make lemonade from lemons.

Each chapter offers advice that provides a lighted path to others trying to navigate life’s circumstances. The reader will embrace this book as a page turner and as a compass for whatever life throws into their path, especially for those coming of age. Generation Z and Alphas will appreciate me for offering words of wisdom and hope while taking the time to point them to the pathway of success.

I have 2 degrees (Bachelors in Corporate Communication and Masters in Sports Management), own a restaurant in St. Louis called Too Much Sauce St. Louis (best wings and catfish), and own my own music management company called Kreative Opportunities Management !

My GOAL is to travel the world to spread the word/message about Don’t K.O. I want to speak at middle schools, high schools , colleges and juvenile detention centers about Don’t K.O. I know that my story, presence and energy will help the YOUTH!

My DREAM is for DON’T K.O. to be apart of every middle school and high school curriculum in ST. LOUIS and eventually the WORLD ! Please LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN !

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1.) Consistency and discipline

-Have consistency and discipline in anything you do is key! You have to sacrifice everything from family to friends to your love life sometimes. If they don’t understand your vision and understand you have to do certain things in order to be everything you want to be, then you don’t need them because they will block your vision and stress you out. A peace of mind is the hardest thing to find. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you! Believe in yourself more. It’s okay to be confident in yourself. It ain’t bragging, it ain’t feeling like you are better than anybody, you just gotta give yourself credit for all the fire stuff you are doing. We speak everything into existence. Be intentional about the things you think and say.

2.) Listening

-Listen to understand, don’t listen to respond. Don’t be closed-minded. Don’t be defensive. Don’t OVERTHINK. Consider mind over matter. There are better days ahead. You are smarter than what you think. Just focus on your output. Don’t worry about how you are being perceived. Do the work. Put in the effort. Remove the thought of judgment. Be nice to yourself. You are doing such a great job. You’re waking up doing the proper things to help elevate your life. Are you perfect? No, but it isn’t about being perfect, it’s about making the effort to be the best you. Little by little, you are creating a better you. Life is short, cherish it!

3.) Hard work

-Life is what you make it. Tomorrow isn’t promised. Everything is a choice. If the decisions you are making on a day-to-day basis don’t align with the future you want, then you need to start making better choices ASAP. Every day do you get you should be trying to make the best out of the day. Think before you speak. Talk to yourself. Push yourself. Respect yourself. Respect what you can do. Love yourself. Love your gift. Know that all you can be is the best version of yourself.  Grow as you go, but don’t stop for anything. Get out of your head. We all have another level we can tap into. Don’t cheat the grind or take short cuts. Don’t be lazy. Put in the extra work. Hard work always pays off. Don’t hold back, go all in or nothing. You have nothing to lose!

Remember if you don’t grind for yourself who gone do it?
