We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rodnesha Ross. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rodnesha below.
Rodnesha , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
**Question:**
“As a single mom and serial entrepreneur, how have you learned to be effective and successful even when you’re the only one in the room who looks like you?”
—
**Answer:**
Being the only one in the room who looks like me is something I’ve experienced countless times throughout my journey. As a single mom, I’ve always had to be resilient—not just for myself, but for my children. I’ve learned that success doesn’t come from fitting in; it comes from standing firm in your purpose and embracing the unique perspective you bring to the table.
Early on, I realized that my voice, my story, and my background weren’t a hindrance—they were an asset. I found strength in being different, because it allowed me to see opportunities that others might have missed. In the business world, especially as a Black woman, there’s often a pressure to fit the mold of what success is supposed to look like. But I’ve never been afraid to break that mold. Instead, I’ve embraced my individuality and used it to carve out space for myself and others who share similar experiences.
In the media and entrepreneurship space, I faced challenges of being overlooked or underestimated, but I didn’t let that silence my voice. Whether it was in boardrooms, creative spaces, or networking events, I’ve learned to show up unapologetically, and I’ve discovered that when you stand in your truth and purpose, people will start listening—regardless of how different you might seem.
That understanding fueled my drive to launch **Mogul Life TV Network**—a platform where we elevate Black voices and showcase the richness of our stories. Through journalism and photography, I’ve spent over 20 years capturing the world through my lens, but creating a TV network allows me to take it a step further. It’s not just about telling our stories; it’s about creating spaces where Black creatives, entrepreneurs, and changemakers can thrive.
Being the only one in the room has shaped me in profound ways. It has taught me the importance of persistence, adaptability, and staying true to my mission. I’ve realized that when you walk into a room and you’re the only one who looks like you, you’re not just representing yourself—you’re representing an entire culture, history, and legacy. And with that responsibility comes the power to create change, to open doors, and to build bridges that help others walk through them.
So, I don’t see being the only one in the room as a setback. I see it as my opportunity to lead the way—because when one of us rises, we all rise.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My journey as a serial entrepreneur, single mom, and media professional has been nothing short of transformative. For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working in the fields of journalism and photography, telling stories, capturing moments, and giving voice to those often overlooked. It has always been my mission to amplify Black voices, perspectives, and artistry. As a creator and storyteller, I have found profound joy and purpose in bringing Black culture to the forefront in ways that inspire, educate, and entertain.
The most exciting and special part of my work is the opportunity to create spaces where people can not only tell their stories but also be seen and heard in a world that sometimes underrepresents them. Whether through my photography, articles, or more recently through Mogul Life TV Network, my focus has always been on breaking barriers and building platforms that encourage diverse voices, especially within the Black community.
One of the things I’m most passionate about right now is the launch of Mogul Life TV Network, which is turning two years old in March. This milestone is not just a celebration of growth, but also of the impact we’ve made in giving Black creatives—filmmakers, writers, actors, producers—a stage to showcase their talents. We’ve been able to develop content that reflects the richness and diversity of our culture, while also pushing the envelope for greater representation in the media. Our platform is more than just entertainment; it’s a movement to change how Black stories are told and consumed.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to be launching a brand-new series called “Mogul Life Filmmakers Lounge”. This series will spotlight the incredible work of Black filmmakers, writers, actors, and all those involved in the behind-the-scenes magic of television production. From screenwriters crafting compelling narratives to directors shaping visuals that speak volumes, we want to give them the recognition they deserve. The Mogul Life Filmmakers Lounge will be a place where creativity meets celebration, and the voices of Black talent can shine.
We’ve come so far in just two years, but this is only the beginning. As our network grows, we’re committed to providing more opportunities, more content, and more spaces for Black creators to thrive. Whether it’s through our TV shows, community outreach, or educational initiatives, our brand is about empowering individuals, fostering collaboration, and creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
So, to anyone who’s been following my journey or the growth of Mogul Life TV Network, thank you. The best is yet to come, and we’re just getting started. If you’re a creator looking to share your story, a fan of Black culture and entertainment, or simply someone who believes in the power of representation, we’re here to amplify your voice. Mogul Life TV is a place for all of us—together, we can build a better, more inclusive media landscape.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back at my journey as a single mom, serial entrepreneur, and media professional, there are three key qualities that have been absolutely essential to my success: resilience, adaptability, and vision.
Resilience: There’s no easy way to say this—entrepreneurship and life, in general, will knock you down, sometimes when you least expect it. But the ability to get back up, even after facing rejection, challenges, or failure, has been a game-changer for me. Resilience has helped me push through the tough times and emerge stronger.
Adaptability: The world, especially in business and media, moves quickly. Being able to pivot, embrace new technology, and evolve with trends has been crucial. From moving into digital media and launching Mogul Life TV Network, adaptability has allowed me to stay relevant and continue growing.
Vision: Having a clear vision has been my guiding light. It’s easy to get distracted by the noise and obstacles, but maintaining a strong sense of purpose keeps me grounded and focused. Whether it was launching my TV network or helping other Black creators find a platform, vision has helped me stay on course even when the path wasn’t clear.
Advice for those early in their journey: My advice is to never give up on yourself. You may not have all the answers or the perfect plan, but having a vision and being willing to adapt will carry you further than you can imagine. Build resilience by embracing failure as part of the journey, and most importantly, stay true to your purpose. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who inspire you, and always remember that your story is valuable. You are capable of creating the success you dream of. Stay patient, stay focused, and keep moving forward.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, absolutely! I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded individuals and organizations who are passionate about amplifying Black voices, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Whether you’re a filmmaker, writer, photographer, videographer, musician, producer, internor part of a nonprofit doing amazing work in the community, I believe that collaboration is key to making a greater impact.
At Mogul Life TV Network, we are building a platform that empowers Black creators, and I’m especially looking for partnerships that will help expand our reach, develop new content, and create opportunities for others. If you’re passionate about supporting Black culture, sharing authentic stories, or building something that uplifts others, I would love to connect.
