We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miller Pyke a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miller , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My ability to pivot is a powerful form of resilience because it reflects not only adaptability but also courage. Pivoting often requires letting go of one path to explore another, which takes a mix of self-awareness and trust in your instincts. It’s about recognizing when something isn’t serving you, then shifting your focus or approach to find a better way forward.
This ability means you’re not rigidly attached to a single outcome—you can adjust to challenges, learn from them, and reframe obstacles into opportunities. It’s a strength that allows me to thrive in uncertainty and keep moving toward growth.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My journey with ApartmentPARTY started amid a huge life transition and I was desperate for community. I was working in film & theater but most of my friends were visual artists & musicians. I wasn’t seeing a single space where all of these people, my piers, were being represented and speaking to one another. I come from a DIY and house party background after years in Dallas and the Pacific Northwest so I started to put that background to use. The first show I hosted in my apartment was a small affair of 15-20 artists seated enjoying acoustic music. It sparked real conversation, intentional information sharing & collaboration. It also awakened a sense of purpose in myself, I found that my calling within creativity was to make space for another creatives. The shows developed and expanded in popularity. During Covid-19 I explored ways to stay connected to this community and thus the interview series AP Studio Files was born as a way to continue to highlight artists. When the events began again I started to take AP to the next level by partnering with several spaces around Brooklyn & Co-hosting events through Empire State Music & Arts festival & an artist residency program that sponsored artists’ in studio time. In 2024 we started a monthly “Artist Checkin” for creatives to discuss obstacles continued needs for support & ways to achieve these goals. 2025 we take goals to the next level. My events have hosted over 100+ artists across mediums and we have released 25+ interviews. Our work is to intentionally create a supportive community of creators that can self sustain their own work. We do this by continually giving space for artists to create.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My interpersonal skills and general “The more the merrier” attitude has led to a space that we attempt to make welcoming for all. I have tried to keep this an ego free space and having that clarity of intention has continued to serve our authentic vibe & culture.
My advice would be lean into your strengths. Sometimes this can even take crowd sourcing, ask your friends what they see as your strengths. They may have more clarity that even you.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for collaborators. We are always stronger together. I look for people without ego, people who can admit to their mistakes, people who have skills or interests that I lack (Such as I am not super tech savvy but always willing to learn and learn best through interpersonal teaching or skill sharing). I love working with people who have a vision that we can magic into action.
