Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Deja Monet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Deja , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I’ve learned to be effective/successful in a room where no one looked like me because I’ve always knew I can make a difference no matter what. I knew I had what it takes to be great and do great things. My work ethic will always stand out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a self taught photographer. I started in 2019. I’ve always enjoyed capturing memories and moments for my family. I decided that it’ll be awesome to do it for others. I am a mother of two Jonathan Jr (12) and Jade (4). My kids are my world. I love my family and friends. In 2020 I experienced losing a sibling. My photography business help keep me going.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency, Great customer service, open to asking questions and doing the work. Keep going, it’ll be tough some days but the reward of it all is worth it. Believe in yourself and don’t let other dictate your success.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months is just not doubting myself and doubling down on my goals. As humans we can be our worst critics. It’s okay to give yourself your flowers. Be proud of where you came from and where your going.
