We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Siu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I learned very early on that giving freely is the key to long-term success. As a Christian, I do believe in sharing openly with others in an authentic way, and that’s really helped foster real relationships with my audience over the years. An abundance mindset really does make running a business so much easier and less stressful!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My business is centered around providing today’s musician and composer with the skills necessary to write beautiful, realistic-sounding orchestral music on their computer. This was an area I developed an interest in while attending high school, and it’s been an absolute joy to share my journey and process with others who also want to create original music using orchestral instruments.
The wonderful thing is that nowadays, technology is more affordable than every before, so anyone can get started with producing music for basically nothing. All you need is a computer and a spark of inspiration! 🙂
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Good question! If I had to pinpoint 3, I’d say:
1. Passion – in order to stay in business for a long time, you have to be deeply passionate about the subject. The reason I started my current business was because I was stuck in another career where I dreaded going into work each day, so I knew that in order to serve most effectively and create meaning in my life, I needed to pivot into work I was really meant for.
2. Curiosity – even though we may own our own business, we’re always learning. The past few years, I’ve taken some time to reflect on what I really want in life as a musician first, and discovered that I wanted to write more music that showed who I am in an authentic way, and I can take these influences and incorporate them into my business as well, in the form of educating others! The same goes for your business – if you have an open mind and are willing to try new techniques and tools every so often, this allows you to see what works for you and what doesn’t. You never know until you try!
3. Consistency – there will always be difficult moments in your journey, whether personally or in your business. It’s the moments where you commit to moving forward and getting the work done where you truly grow the most, and learn to respect yourself in a deeper way. The best businesses are the ones who not only add value, but do so day in and out!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Graham Cochrane has been a wonderful source of inspiration since the beginning of my business journey. He started his YouTube channel focused around online business while I was in university, so after graduating, I already had a wealth of his resources to study and implement for myself.
I’ve also joined some of his paid programs, which encouraged me to take the next step in my own business and commit to the process.
