Meet MAYSUN

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to MAYSUN. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

MAYSUN, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my passion for sound and my motivation to constantly adapt. The element that connects every phase of my career has been the focus on the research and creation of music and technology. From being a drummer to a synth player, to exploring different ways to augment my drums, to exploring modular synthesis, sound design, recording, and spatial audio, I’ve always stayed interested in the process of searching. This consistent effort has built patience, trust and persistence.

My artistic process is also something that helps ground me. I work extensively with location-based recordings, capturing moments and environments that serve as reference points for my life. Listening back, I can always recall where I was and what I felt in that very moment.

I always let music guide me.
.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are persistence, consistency, and problem-solving. Persistence has kept me moving forward, always seeking for something new. Consistency has been key to finding collaborators, maintaining an up-to-date portfolio, and ensuring steady growth. Problem-solving, because every path towards a solution, whether gear or music-related, has expanded my knowledge.

For those just starting, I suggest focusing on finding people who share the same level of passion and drive as you. Surrounding yourself with individuals that will help you build a strong artistic identity and create opportunities together.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
My main challenges are managing time, space, and portability. I often have more ideas than time, so staying organized and prioritizing effectively is essential. In terms of space, maintaining an organized work area is crucial, especially when managing multiple projects at once. A cluttered workspace can easily break a flow. As for portability, I need to be mindful of travel costs and setup efficiency, ensuring that my gear is easy to transport and set up without compromising on performance. These challenges force me to find solutions and stay organized.
