Meet Kelly Swavely

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Swavely a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Kelly with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
The desire to succeed has always been deep within me . Even as a little girl , I was always competitive , whether it was a school field day, team sports or grades, I always wanted to be at the top . I give a lot of credit to my parents who have always pushed me to feel proud of anything with my name on it . My dad is infamous for the saying “pride makes the difference”, and really that perfectly sums up my drive . If I am going to do something, be associated with something , or try something, I want to be proud of the outcome and the effort I put into it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In 2023 I started my business, Best Face Forward, LLC, a concierge mobile aesthetics company that changes the narrative in aesthetic care . After nearly two decades of bedside emergency nursing , my passion for helping others has become a part of who I am . The only way I can truly stay motivated in a job is if I find a purpose that fulfills me . After becoming a mom to three children , I found it increasingly difficult to give my best effort at home and in the emergency department so I began thinking of ways I could challenge myself while still using my nursing skill set . I came across a company called Smiley Aesthetics that allowed me to train in aesthetics and become an entrepreneur , and from day one they made it very clear it would take a lot of hard work and dedication to become successful . I accepted the challenge . Now, 15 months after opening , I have just over 130 clients , I have worked with multiple other small businesses and I have traveled all over Wilson county bringing FDA approved aesthetic services into the homes of many .
My mission with Best Face Forward is “your beauty , on your terms” , meaning if you are juggling work, parenthood, schedules, commuting, long hours , etc you can STILL care for yourself and take your confidence back . I see clients on their lunch break, or in the evening while their kids are with them , or on a Saturday after they see their kids sports . Their aesthetics appointment fits into their schedule . And that is how it should be . My goal for 2025 is to expand my service menu and add more treatment days to allow my clients to benefit from even more . I take pride in being their ally in the world of skin care so if there is a service that would benefit them but I don’t offer yet, I give them referrals to people I would trust with my care . Ultimately I would like to also have an office space for my clients to come to for services that can’t be done in a mobile setting but my business model will always stay the same , the option to have your appointment come to you will always be there.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the same drive that pushed me to want first place on field day as a little girl is what has fueled me as an entrepreneur. It is really a powerful feeling when you accomplish goals you have set for yourself . So, I think it is key to create those goals, both big and small and it’s equally important to celebrate when you accomplish them . It is also much easier to have the drive to succeed in something when you are passionate about the outcome . If you want to learn how to sew or to cook , if you want to run a marathon or complete a triathlon , or if you want to become a business owner, there is nothing stopping you if that is where your passion lies .
So if you have a passion and you can activate your drive , I think the other thing you must do is become comfortable in the journey . Because ultimately that is what it will be. A journey. It will be filled with failure, with feelings of defeat, with self doubt but if you can accept that in the discomfort comes the change, you can control the narrative along your journey . If you haven’t accomplished something , change your mindset to “I have accomplished that , YET” and then reflect on the things you have accomplished and use that power to take the next step .

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
In my journey to entrepreneurship , I have found so much support in the team at Smiley Aesthetics . Not only did I receive my initial training through them , I have had an unlimited amount of mentorship, continuing education, mental coaching and support through them . Smiley Aesthetics has created a space where unlike many other aesthetics practices, there is no gate keeping. They have multiple platforms to gain education and training on both aesthetic practices and business management . They have been open about what has worked for them and what hasn’t. Watching them carve the path for a sense of community in a highly competitive field has been so inspiring and it’s a community I am proud to be a part of .
