Alicia Kaur, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Our resilience is deeply rooted in the love and strength we both experienced through the loss of our mothers. During their final days, we were their primary caregivers, and we learned so much from them—not just about compassion and perseverance, but about how to live with intention and grace, even in the face of hardship. They taught us that life can be unpredictable and difficult, but the most important things to never forget are a steadfast faith, kindness, and a commitment to always giving back.
Our mothers’ words still echo in our hearts every day, especially when we face challenges in this journey of building our brand. We were always told to stay positive, never quit, and to always strive to make the world better. Their legacy continues to inspire us to create products that are not only natural and of the highest quality, but also reflect their values of love, integrity, and care. We want to honor them by ensuring that our brand doesn’t just offer beauty—it offers a sense of empowerment, kindness, and resilience that would make them proud. Through all the ups and downs, we keep pushing forward because we know they’d want us to.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At the heart of what we do is a commitment to creating high-quality, flavorful, natural Ingestible Beauty® products that are not only effective but also deeply meaningful. Our brand was born from personal experience—both of us went through a journey of caregiving with our mothers, and through that, we learned the true power of love, resilience, and self-care. We wanted to create the highest quality products that embody those values—something that brings care and natural beauty to others.
What’s most exciting for us right now is how far our brand has come. Every product we create is a reflection of the principles that shaped us—care, kindness, and authenticity. We’re so proud to offer clean beauty options that are natural and meticulously crafted with love, knowing they’re helping people feel and look their best, inside and out. What makes our brand special is that it’s not just about selling products; it’s about telling a story, offering a piece of our journey, and creating a community around shared values of natural beauty, love, care, and resilience.
We’re constantly working to innovate and expand our offerings, and in the coming months, we have a few exciting product launches lined up that we believe will continue to elevate the Ingestible Beauty® experience for our Akam Family – keep an eye out for more amazing flavor profiles! We’re also looking at ways to give back more to the communities that supported us along the way, whether through partnerships, charitable donations, or creating more opportunities for people to connect with the values that define our brand.
Ultimately, we want our brand to stand for something bigger than beauty—it’s about honoring those we love, spreading positivity, and helping others feel empowered to take care of themselves and their loved ones. We’re incredibly excited about the journey ahead and all the ways we can continue to share our story with others.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, we’d say the three most impactful qualities that shaped our journey are resilience, empathy, and a deep sense of purpose.
First, resilience has been key. Whether dealing with personal challenges or professional setbacks, there were times when the only option was to keep going. We learned to embrace extreme challenges (such as launching in the middle of a pandemic) as part of the process and to push through the tough moments. Our advice to anyone early in their journey is to accept that setbacks are inevitable, but do not allow them to define you. What defines you is how you respond and bounce back, how resilient are you? Focus on building mental and emotional strength, and remember that persistence often leads to the breakthroughs you’re looking for.
Second, empathy has been vital in how we’ve built our brand. Our experiences as caregivers made us deeply attuned to the needs and feelings of others. In business, empathy has helped us design Ingestible Beauty® products that truly resonate with our customers, connect authentically with people, and create a community built on trust and care. To develop empathy, we recommend really listening to others—whether it’s your team, customers, family, or friends. Pay attention to what they’re saying, but also to what they’re not saying, because that often holds the key to understanding needs.
Lastly, a sense of purpose has been a guiding force. Throughout our journey, we’ve always known that our mission wasn’t just about creating a lifestyle and beauty brand; it was about honoring our mothers and building something that could make a positive impact on others. This sense of purpose kept us focused, motivated, and passionate even when things got difficult. Our advice here is to find something that drives you—a mission or a cause—and use it as the North Star to guide your decisions. If you lead with purpose, the work will feel meaningful, and the obstacles won’t feel as insurmountable.
For those just starting out, we’d say: build resilience by embracing challenges, nurture empathy by truly connecting with others, and find a purpose that gives your work deeper meaning. All of these will not only help you succeed but will also help you stay grounded in the face of whatever comes your way.
