We were lucky to catch up with Camille Kauer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Camille, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
The Dictionary defines resilience as “the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.” My parents instilled being “tough” and resilient in their actions. We were always moving to new towns, cities, and even countries, and each time my parents would put down roots and build a community. Which taught me to do the same as an adult. everywhere I’ve moved, I’ve learned you are only as resilient as your inner circle and the community you build. They keep me motivated and to stay the course.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Everything kind of just fell into place. I didn’t know what I was going to do when the pandemic hit. I was working mainly as an actor and occasionally volunteered at a local radio station. After winning best on-air personality, I knew I had to leverage the win somehow. I didn’t want to let the voters down by just disappearing. I started my podcast, The E-Spot with Camille, as an outlet to maintain the community I had built in the beauty, entertainment, and interior design world. I was told that my show was “too broad” or that I needed to narrow my focus. I didn’t listen. I knew my audience had multiple interests, just like myself and it paid off! I have won several awards, including breaking a Guinness World Record by speaking at Podfest 2020.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have helped me the most are being curious, confident, and not afraid of failing. I am awful at asking for help, which has forced me to be self-efficient. Being curious and not afraid of failing, I was able to create my show and digital media company solo. I had to learn to create my show while hosting it. I had to learn how to do everything myself and fast! I earned my Digital Marketing certificate at George Washington University and became a member of their advisory board, which forced me to learn even more about digital marketing and how to create organic social media campaigns.
I took countless classes on editing, sound engineering, voice acting, and numerous more to get my skills up to par for podcasting in my self-made studio. I faked my confidence from acting until I started to believe it. The feedback and awards definitely helped. Every time I think of giving up, I just look at how far I have come and push through to see where this journey goes.
I have always jumped into any role, position, or venture with the confidence that I will always win. With each opportunity, I believe I’ll either earn or learn and never fail.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love working alone, but it’s impossible to do it all. I am always looking for guests, partners, and possibly a new co-host. I’d love to find a co-host that could join me on this journey. Getting guests has become increasingly difficult now that the pandemic is over. Having a permanent co-host would be the best way to still talk about issues that matter in art, beauty, design, and entertainment. If that’s you, contact me ASAP!
I’ve partnered with some fantastic companies that have made The E-Spot with Camille, not have to rely on “annoying ads” or sponsors that don’t fit the brand. I would love to find more companies to partner with in the future. Glo Skin Beauty has been a constant supporter since starting my show in 2020.
