We were lucky to catch up with Erin King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erin, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence after hitting a breaking point and wanting more for myself. I experienced toxic relationships, domestic violence, brokenness, hurt, shame, and humiliation in the past. But what I didn’t realize was my past was weighing me down and affecting my confidence until I reached my breaking point. As a single mother of two, I knew I wanted better, not only for myself but for my children as well. I decided to go on a healing journey to rebuild my foundation. I poured into myself daily from mirror affirmations to listening to podcasts, sermons, and taking walks, to find peace within myself. Slowly but surely, I began rebuilding my foundation and accepting both my past and the woman I was becoming. This process allowed me to reclaim my confidence and self-worth, no longer defined by my previous struggles. It empowered me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new experiences, which further strengthened my confidence. Through self-discovery and acceptance, I have embraced my journey and developed a stronger sense of self.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a single mother who has personally experienced the challenges of suffering in silence, my passion is fueled by empowering other single moms to reclaim their voices and confidently become the women they envision for themselves. At Journee In Her Shoes, we have created a safe space that feels comfortable and judgement free. Having walked the path myself, I understand the fear of judgment and isolation that often accompanies such experiences. It was through my own struggles that God gave me the vision to birth Journee In Her Shoes, I didn’t want other women to endure the pain and loneliness I once felt. At Journee In Her Shoes women can release the weight of their stories, find unwavering support from a sisterhood of women who have walked in their shoes, and gain the necessary tools to embrace their unique journeys and own their stories. What sets us apart is our focus on uplifting and empowering women, reminding them that their past does not define them and that they hold the power to envision and create a bright future. We believe in the transformative power of sharing our stories, recognizing it as a crucial step in the healing and growth process. Through individual and group coaching, we foster a sense of sisterhood and support amongst women, creating an environment where we can overcome life’s challenges, embrace our journeys, own our stories and become the women we were always meant to be.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three powerful skills that I developed from my journey are owning, acknowledging, and accepting who I am, where I am, and how I got here. I realized that this is my journey and my story, and if I wanted to see change, I had to take the initiative. I couldn’t rely on others or make excuses for why I couldn’t make it happen. I had to believe in myself and take action. I also learned that speaking about my story was a crucial part of my healing process. Sharing my experiences not only helped me heal, but it also showed me that I wasn’t alone. My advice to anyone in the early stages of their healing journey is to seek out a supportive community of people who have been where you are. This will inspire you and remind you that what you’re seeking is attainable. It will provide you with the tools you need, and don’t hesitate to ask for help and invest in yourself. Stepping outside of my comfort zone was a catalyst for my growth, and it ultimately led me to where I am today. Just imagine where your story can lead you if you fully embrace it and embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.
