We recently connected with Alonna Nicole and have shared our conversation below.
Alonna , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose through trial and error and maybe some self reflection. I was an art major in college and tried to find various jobs in that field but nothing ever materialized for one reason or another. After that, I tried various fields looking for something that I could do well but also tapped into some things that interest me, but still nothing ever stuck. It wasn’t until I started making little social media videos that I realized what gets me going, the thing that lights my fire. It’s ENTERTAINMENT! When I actually thought about it, from a young age I was always acting things out, ready to entertain the family!
After that epiphany, it was almost like tunnel vision. I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. I started acting classes, improv classes, hosting classes, you name it and I was ready to soak it in like a sponge. It gave me a new energy, and that energy propels me through the ups and downs that come with the entertainment business. It’s keeps me going and positive through the multitude of “no’s” I get almost daily when auditioning for roles. I truly believe i was put here to entertain people and that belief also serves as fuel that keeps me striving for excellence in any endeavor I choose to peruse.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a pop culture connoisseur, an entertainment reporter, and also a budding actor!
I bring people news and relevant topics in a fun, unorthodox way that only I can. I have a recurring role on Tuesdays on TMZ where I give my own opinions on the topics of the day. Some would say I march to the beat of my own drum and I think that is on full display with my takes on everything from entertainment news to sports! It’s unfiltered and authentic, something I have noticed is lacking. It seems that most of these hosts and pundits are just going through the motions with no real passion for what they are speaking about. With me, you get the opposite! You get someone who legitimately cares about what they do and is super enthusiastic about it!
I have a few things brewing in the fire so don’t be surprised if you see me a few places really soon.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say:
1. Be resilient- Not everything is going to go your way but you can’t let that discourage you from pursuing your dream. You have to build a thick skin to push through those barriers. If this isn’t developed, you will quit everything before you have seen it to fruition and who knows what that could have looked like.
2. Be versatile – Having a single-mindedness when it comes to your goal can help you focus but you run the risk of missing other opportunities that might not be exactly what you want to do but maybe it’s adjacent and could help you get into what you ultimately want to do. It’s rare that you make a video, it pops and you are famous overnight, it’s never that direct of a path. Most of the time you have to take a few extra side steps to get where you want to go.
3. Be Passionate – you have to love what you are pursing because that love is what’s going to carry you through rejections and feelings of doubt. If you don’t love it, it’s easier to just let it go but if you really feel it deep in your bones you find ways to make success happen.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I often step back, take a breath, and count. Often times, we have to realize that whatever the issue is, more times than not we are making it more significant than what it is in our own head. We overthink it and blow it up until it seems like it’s some insurmountable obstacle. But I find if you just step back and breathe for a minute, you really get a perspective on what’s really an issue and what doesn’t deserve your attention.
I often think of Serenity:
“…Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the thing I can and the wisom to know the difference…”
