Meet The Creative Corner & Co.

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Creative Corner & Co. a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi The Creative Corner , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

Each of us practice self-care in different ways. We are each very intentional about the way we create and walk through life, which looks like slowing down, creating space just to exist which is where a lot of inspiration comes from. There’s a balance between the urgency and demand of maintaining a commercial/retail space and making sure we allow time for rest and recovery by spending time with friends, taking walks, enjoying good food, and not getting bogged down by the hustle and grind culture, Our inspiration comes from those little in-between moments with our friends and family and being present.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

The Creative Corner & Co. aims to foster creativity, collaboration and connection. We are a unique, artist lead and owned venture where three local artists and craft enthusiasts have come together to share knowledge and inspiration. Our mission is to create a fully accessible, welcoming space where individuals of all abilities can learn, create, and experience art. Recognizing the diverse needs of our community, we have designed the space to be completely ADA compliant, ensuring that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can participate fully in all activities.
We are an art cooperative that provides teaching classes and workshops based on our own skills and mediums, and we also sell our work in a retail setting. Amy is our resident candle mixologist who teaches custom hand poured candle making with upcycled and sentimental vessels. Katie is our in house jewelry poet who focuses on small batch handmade jewelry and home adornments, taking sacred memories and moments and turning them into wearable art. Tara is our watercolor and mixed media artist who is dedicated to teaching classes aimed at fostering playful creativity and embracing the creative process with painting and crafting.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Leaning on local resources and support
Researching financial opportunities
Finding likeminded individuals to collaborate with

Dont be afraid to ask for help. All three of us started this journey with learning our own skills in our creativity, but lacked the business knowledge to take that next step. Looking into small business resources or opportunities in your area can help develop those skills you’re missing,

Learning to be flexible and fluid while building your business, knowing it won’t happen overnight. Be patient, but don’t stop pursuing your passion!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

At this point, we’ve been open for about 6 months, so the overwhelm has shifted from opening to taking the sheer volume of ideas and turning them into meaningful experiences and artisanal goods for our customers. We often have to remember to pace ourselves in planning and executing all of our ideas. The three of us will meet together 2-3 times a month to collaborate and put all our ideas down to paper so we can look at time constraints and what concepts are attainable and realistic. It’s important to plan ahead while still trying to be present so we’re not constantly playing catch up to ourselves,
