Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Umar Sulaiman Mailafiya. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Umar, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
From the fact that I’m the first son of my parents and I néed to be the person to take of the family when they’re old. I have dreams of traveling the world trying out new cuisines. Tour around and explore the great creation of God. And be truly free.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the first son in my family, and we fall somewhere in the middle class—not rich, not poor, just average. Growing up, I always thought about building wealth, but it wasn’t until my second year in school that I had a clear realization: if I wanted to achieve that goal, I needed to develop a high-income skill.
That realization led me to coding. It was during the COVID-19 lockdown, a time when the world slowed down, but I saw an opportunity to level up. I immersed myself in learning, knowing that mastering a valuable skill could open doors to the kind of future I envisioned.
Fast forward to now, I’m a web designer and copywriter with a passion for helping business founders and CEOs establish a strong online presence. My work focuses on crafting high-converting landing pages and personal websites that blend creativity, business strategy, and futuristic design.
What excites me the most about my work is the ability to translate a brand’s vision into a digital experience that not only looks great but also drives results. I believe that a well-designed website isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about communication, persuasion, and positioning a business for success. That’s why my approach combines strategic copywriting with sleek, high-performance design to create websites that are both visually compelling and conversion-focused.
Currently, I’m in the process of launching my own web design agency, specializing in landing pages and personal websites for business leaders. I’ve noticed that many founders struggle to present their brand in a way that resonates with their audience, and I want to change that by offering streamlined, high-quality web solutions tailored to their needs.
Beyond web design, I’m also developing a digital product—a DIY Landing Page Copywriting Guide—to help business owners optimize their landing pages with clear, persuasive messaging. This guide will provide a step-by-step framework for writing high-converting copy, making it easier for entrepreneurs to communicate their value effectively.
At the heart of my brand is a commitment to innovation, clarity, and impact. Whether through custom-built websites or educational resources, my goal is to help business leaders stand out in the digital world and connect with their audience in a meaningful way.
Stay tuned for the official launch of my agency and digital product—I’m excited to bring these projects to life!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the skills that mostly got me through was
1. I focused on my goal. I avoid the nay sayers. The ones that say it’s not going to work. The ones that laughs at me and be like “what are you even doing?” and so on.
2. Mastering relationship with people and connection. Be where you’re appreciated. Be where you have similar goals and mindset. Be where you are always feeling motivated to improve.
3. Master your craft and avoid the shiny things: focus on one thing and be good at it. Any other thing should step aside until you feel you’re good at that one thing and you’ll be paid handsomely for it. Having other skills are good. But having a master skill is better. Any other thing should come after.
My advice to those that are early in their journey is that they should remain steadfast in what they want. They should pursue it with all their might. It’s a survival game and they’re going to survive if tehyr refuse to give up.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They took care of me since I was small. It’s a privilege and I appreciate that alot. If there’s anyone in this world I’ll be very bold at saying they love and care for me. Then it’s my parents. They’re the best.
