We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
I would say my optimism comes from my family that most likely started from my grandfather and later from my best friend. They both had challenging health issues growing up but no matter what, they always found the silver lining at the end of the day and kept going and never let their illnesses define them, if anything it made them stronger and want to defeat the odds. I always carried that with me and admired that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My passion for acting started out when I did talent shows in elementary school and eventually got to do productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Fiddler on the Roof & Clue. From then on out my passion for acting and performing grew more and more with each opportunity that I got to do. Continuing with background work through Central Casting, student films at the New York Film Academy as well as acting classes with Sean Maguire at The Players Conservatory. I have learned and grown so much and hope to take my career further and more professionally in tv, film, commercials and musical theater. I am currently doing episode recaps on some of my favorite tv shows over on my Tiktok page @actingbyashleym as well as monthly monologues and scene work over on my Instagram page under the same username if you’d like to give me a follow! 🙂

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Persistence is key! Don’t be too hard on yourself and feel like you are running out of time. As long as you have a passion and focus for what you love to do you are already on the right path! It’s okay to take breaks, don’t overwhelm yourself too much! You’ve got this!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and like you are running out of time. It is important to know and realize that there is no time limit and everyone goes at their own pace. As long as you never give up, you will get there.
