Meet Alex Kloewer

We recently connected with Alex Kloewer and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

A little over two years ago, I was invited to a friend’s wedding; a month shy of the big day, she reached out to me with the proposition of being her set up/tear down and day of contact for her wedding to assure her vision came to life and her family didn’t have to stress. I did not hesitate in my “Yes, of course!” response to her, but I was so fearful I was not going to be able to achieve what I promised. Thankfully, the day went without a hitch and there was a moment where I was able to step back – almost an out of body feeling – and witness the couple, their families, and their guests laughing, smiling, and being fully present in that moment – not stressed about if we were following the timeline, if the desserts were running out, or if the DJ knew what to do next – they all were all there in that moment, creating a memory, because they had someone to take that worry away. I spent the entire next day buzzing with excitement, smiling ear to ear, and trying to capture all my thoughts and ideas on paper – this is how Rae Organizing came to be – the mission, to gift families and friends more time to create memories with each other and let the worries fade away.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Rae Organizing is a wedding planning company with the mission to gift the couples and their families the freedom to let the stress fade away and spend their time on being present and creating memories. Each couple we have had the opportunity to work with has allowed us to be a small part of the next chapter of their lives by guiding them through the planning process, vendor sourcing and management, event design and procurement, set up and tear down of the event, and day of coordination.

One of the most special parts of this job is being able to watch two people create an event that brings two families together and find moments to encapsulate each families’ unique stories into their own. I have watched couples honor those love stories that could not be at their wedding with a display of their wedding photos. A bride wearing a piece of jewelry that all of the woman before her have worn on their wedding days. A first dance that was a perfect mix of both their parents’ first dance songs. I could go on and on with so many other moments that cannot be replicated because they are so uniquely special to these couples and their families. These moments have a type of magic that cannot be described in words but is palpable to all those in the room.

In the next phase of growing Rae Organizing, we are making strides to be able to provide event rentals and custom fabrications as well as providing planning services to those that would like to elope.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Coming from a project management and logistics background was one the greatest stepping off points to being successful in this field – acting as the lighthouse of information for that event.

Both in the planning process and execution of the day, the number one skill you need to hone is being organized. Take time to create a “wedding master” that makes sense to you, so you are able to track all the information you need to have accessible at a moment’s notice – timeline, inventory sheet, contact information, vendors contracts, dos and don’ts of a venue, etc. This will allow you to step onsite to event confident in yourself and bring peace to those needing assistance.

The ability to multi-task and problem solve is pivotal in assuring your day will run smoothly. A wedding is a collaborative event and with that there are many moving parts that have their own unique needs and issues that you must be able to address multiple overlapping parts as once all while being able to solve a problem that may occur and keeping the couple worry-free.

The ability to read body language and anticipate needs is a skill that takes time but will make being organized and able to solve problems much easier. Getting to know your couples and understand their end goal will allow you to be an extension of them through the planning and day of the event – you will have a better understanding of what collaborators to use, design, and how to handle things that might come up in a way that represents the couples positively.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents are the loudest example of developing a solid foundation from working hard, caring about what you do, knowing what your do matters, and uplifting those around you. I had a front row seat watching my parents sacrifice their time, energy, and money to provide a life for my brothers and I to pursue our passions and ideas.

My dad has taught me that being in a leadership role you cannot be truly successful without being willing to continue to learn and grow from those that are the building blocks of a successful business.

My mom has taught me the importance, not only of an amazing work effort, but the need for a work-life balance – you cannot care about what you do and those you have the opportunity to work with if you are pulling from an empty tank. I am also extremely lucky to have witnessed my mom start her own business from the ground up and continue to evovle and grow this business.
