Meet Paula Romeu Garcia

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paula Romeu Garcia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paula below.

Hi Paula , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.

Ah, the old Resistance. Think of writing (or any creative endeavor) like surfing: sometimes you’re riding high, and other times, you’re just waiting for a good wave. The key isn’t to stop surfing just because the waves aren’t perfect—it’s to keep showing up. That’s really all that’s required: show up, show up, show up. Writer’s block is just a mirage created by Resistance to throw you off course.

Even now, as I hit a snag with my autofiction novel, I don’t try to force it. Instead, I make sure to “get in the water” every day, whether it’s writing smaller pieces, doing morning pages, or even these answers. I also find that movement helps a lot—motion creates emotion—so I’ve lined up some yoga and pilates classes. I know it won’t be long before I’m back to writing like a maniac (: I refuse to let it defeat me!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Paula, and I’m an artist.

Crap, that sounded a bit like an AA confession—I’m just messing. But really, isn’t calling your passion your profession a true blessing?

You could describe me as many things, all starting with “P”: poet, pirate, photographer, performance artist. I respond to inspiration in the creative language it demands, crafting art that loves to stir up healthy controversy and provoke thoughtful conversation.

Although I’m based in New York, my spirit is nomadic. I thrive on the move, exploring new places, new people, drawing inspiration from the uncertainty that comes with adapting to new environments and living out of a zipperless suitcase.

Last year, I launched my first solo photography exhibition “T0PL3$$ AMERICA” in Manhattan—yes, it stirred quite the controversy, especially on social media, earning me a lingering shadow-ban… oops…(•)(•)

This exciting 2025, I’m taking the concept to the UK with “Bare Britain.” In addition, I’m diving into writing my first book and auditioning for increasingly intriguing roles. They said doing it all at once couldn’t be done—they were wrong. But just to play along, I’ve given myself one job: to have fun.

But fun is a three-letter word and it has ‘u’ in the middle… So, I hope you join the ride 🙂

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) Speaking more than one language — Huge advantage. If you’re lucky enough that English is your first, don’t be silly enough to let it be your only. Being able to think/express yourself in another language opens a whole world of possibilities inside your mind. It’s also sexy af.

2) Embracing bravery over fear– It’s crucial to be brave enough to play the fool sometimes. We all fear judgment, appearing silly or making bold requests. Don’t be afraid to ASK for what you WANT; being a brave fool sets you apart from those who choose comfort and familiarity. Venture outside your comfort zone—wear that outrageous fuchsia jacket already, book the flight, ask that cute boy out or your boss for a bloody raise! —and watch magic happen.

3) Learn how to set healthy boundaries and communicate effectively early on — Read books. Practice it in your day to day life. You’ll save thousands of dollars in therapy and have better relationships with your family and thus with yourself.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

SIEMPRE! (always!)

I’m always on the lookout for fellow artists eager to craft something extraordinary, regardless of the medium. If you’re not shy about reaching out to ignite a creative spark, I’m all ears—and if there isn’t an immediate spark, worry not; I always carry matches, we’ll figure something out 😉

Specifically, for my upcoming exhibition, “Bare Britain,” I am seeking female-identifying individuals in the UK. I’m looking for participants of all shapes, sizes, and colors—with or without breasts—to ensure the broadest spectrum of representation for our audience.

For my book… Writer seeks cool-as-a-cucumber editor who can handle my brand of crazy. It’s gonna be…puro fuego (pure fire).
