We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nae Webb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nae below.
Nae , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Like anything you do in life as a human we always wanted to be good, look good or be better than the next person. When I started baking it wasn’t to make a profit or to try to start a business, it was simply me trying to figure out this skill that I had all this time. I wasn’t confident at all and didn’t really have a high self esteem about my baked goods until the positive feed back. I would always think “what looks and taste good to me might not to someone else.” With the help of my family and friends being my critics, taste testers and supporters I developed a confidence nobody can tear down. I know that God has put me in a position to where I can overcome different obstacles in my growth and journey and build a confidence and self esteem level that makes me stand out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Im a baker of desserts. I started my journey to baking in 2018 with baking cupcakes and brownies and different desserts for my family. I did not get into the professional side of baking until about 2021, where I started making business cards promoting and selling my baked goods. I focus on cakes, cupcakes, cake shooters, cookie cakes, chocolate strawberries and a variety of other simple treats for dessert tables. During my journey of baking I have learned a lot from myself and other bakers as well. And to stay humble and know that there is always room for growth and learning. This has helped me grow and shape my business into what it is today.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to give advice to a new baker it would be to not give up! Pace yourself and be yourself! Starting off I always would get frustrated because the design did not come out the way I wanted, I did something wrong with cake or couldn’t have the patience to push through. I had to train myself to not get bakers burnout. Pace your orders I would rather have 3 orders that I can take my time to do right, then 5 orders that will look sloppy because I rushed. And I had to learn to be myself. Be creative. Baking is an art and your cake is a blank canvas and there are endless possibilities that a person can do.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Promoting and connecting is my biggest obstacle. I had to get over my shyness and start connecting out to people other than my family, by posting content on social media handing out business cards in hope of business from word of mouth. This journey has had its up and downs, but it’s only the beginning and I try to out do myself every month to be better, to connect with more people to get new customers and new social content.
