Portia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from having experienced wins and losses in life. I have learned that with a loss, something bigger and better is on the way. A loss is only temporary and is not the final verdict. I have programmed myself to not take a loss to heart, but instead, use it as a sign to reevaluate and pivot. Furthermore, even with wins, I have learned to never get too comfortable, but to continue finding ways that will allow me to elevate. Overall, I remain optimistic because I know that there is always a rainbow after the storm.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am Portia and I am a content creator. I have a YouTube channel titled “That’s So Portia.” As a creator, I focus on content that I describe to be “Lifestyle & More.” I create long form and short form content that highlights travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Across my social media platforms, I love to take viewers along to travel destinations, provide style inspiration, share new shopping finds, and share life moments such as concerts, candle making classes, new restaurants, birthday celebrations, and more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say three things that has been impactful in my journey are:
1) having a professional background in media
2) knowing how to film on different devices, and
3) knowing how to edit using a variety of programs.
Having a professional background in media has allowed me to understand the social media landscape because my work involved social media campaigns, so as a creator this allowed me to understand how certain platforms work, being able to analyze data and insights on platforms, and so forth. As a former journalist, I am equipped with knowledge and skills in editing and filming, which made things easier for me because I did not have to learn from scratch while starting as a creator.
For anyone who is in the beginning stages of being a creator, I would recommend researching creator/influencer industry trends – stay aware of what professionals are saying is the rising platform, the latest features on existing platforms, and more. For beginners, I would recommend always looking for affordable start up options regarding filming and editing equipment. I do not encourage creators to stress themselves on purchasing expensive equipment when first starting. I recommend utilizing their smartphone first and free versions of editing apps. I would suggest learning the basics of filming and editing first and then working your way up to the bells and whistles.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I would love to partner/collaborate with brands/businesses that are in the travel, entertainment, beauty, and fashion industries. However, I am open to collaborating with other brands/businesses in different industries too. I would love to display a brand’s products or services to my online community. I enjoy sharing with my supporter tips on travel, fashion, and more, and would be happy to get a brand more exposure by putting them in front of my supporters. Moreover, I am interested in collaborating with other creators/influencers and assisting them on their journey whether it is with filming, editing, script writing, navigating brand deals, etc. – I would be delighted to help a fellow creator elevate in this space.
