Hi Christina, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Through my beautiful children, my amazing husband and my personal development. Staying home to take care of my children was a decision that transformed my life in every way. I have been able to fully understand what it means to nurture, guide and support little lives as they grow. My children teach me to be more patient, creative, and resilient because they make me improve myself not only for them but for myself.

At the same time, I have always loved cooking and baking. It has been my creativity, my stress reliever, and my way to show love to the people around me. This passion made me start my in-home micro-bakery. What started as a small hobby developed into something much bigger: a way to connect with my community, support my family and prove to my children that dreams do indeed come true. Starting this business from the ground up while my kids grow up has been teaching me so much about balance, patience, and persistence. There are days I wake up early to prep dough and nights I help with homework while getting ready for the next day’s orders. It’s not always easy, but it is fulfilling. The happiness that my bread brings to people and the fact that my children are watching me create something with my own two hands makes me know that I have found my purpose.
My family and my bakery are woven together into my “why.” They’ve both shown me that my purpose is to grow, create, and pour love into all of the things I do whether that is parenting my children or kneading sourdough.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m the owner and baker behind La Casera Sourdough Co., a small in-home micro-bakery based in Thornton, Colorado. I’m a proud wife, mom, Army veteran, and first-generation Salvadoran American and my journey has shaped my deep passion for sourdough baking. “La Casera” means “homemade” in Spanish, and that’s exactly what my brand represents – bringing the warmth, quality, and tradition of homemade sourdough to my local community.

Baking has always been a passion of mine, but turning it into a business has been such a rewarding journey. Sourdough, in particular, speaks to me because of its simplicity, patience, and the way it connects people to real, nourishing food. Every loaf I bake reflects not only my experiences but also my love for the art of fermentation and creating something truly special from scratch. Knowing that families are enjoying my sourdough makes every early morning and long baking day worth it.

What sets La Casera apart is my commitment to quality and creativity. I specialize in handcrafted sourdough bread, sandwich loaves, and baked treats like scones and cookies. Some of my favorites include my Apple Fritter Sourdough Focaccia and my Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Sourdough Cookies – they’ve become customer favorites too!

I’ve been offering weekly pre-orders through Hotplate for Friday pick-ups, with occasional Saturday options. This has allowed me to better serve my community while balancing life as a stay-at-home mom.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to keep growing, experimenting with new sourdough creations, and hopefully expanding my reach to even more bread lovers. You can follow my journey on Facebook and Instagram or place an order through my Hotplate page!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been patience, adaptability, and resilience.

Patience has been essential, whether it’s raising my four kids or perfecting a sourdough recipe that takes days to get just right. Good things take time, and learning to trust the process has been key. For anyone starting out, my advice is to embrace the slow progress and know that growth often happens when you least expect it.

Adaptability has helped me balance motherhood and building La Casera Sourdough Co. Life is unpredictable, and being able to pivot – whether it’s adjusting a baking schedule around nap times or tweaking recipes based on what’s available, has made all the difference. My advice? Stay open to change, and don’t be afraid to try new approaches when something isn’t working.

Resilience has carried me through the tough days – when orders pile up, kids are sick, or things don’t go as planned. Owning a small business and raising a family both come with challenges, but pushing through those hard moments builds strength. I encourage others to view setbacks as lessons. Each challenge is shaping you into a stronger version of yourself.

These qualities have not only shaped my success but also brought joy and fulfillment into both my family life and my business.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Right now, my biggest challenge is balancing being a full-time college student, a stay-at-home mom of four (two being 2 and under), and running my micro-bakery. There are days when it feels like I’m being pulled in every direction – between coursework, baking orders, and meeting the daily needs of my kids. It can be overwhelming.

What’s helping me push through is time management and giving myself grace. I’ve learned to prioritize tasks, break my day into small, manageable blocks, and lean on my support system when I need help. Whether it’s my husband stepping in or asking for extra time on assignments if needed.

Most importantly, I’ve accepted that perfection isn’t the goal, progress is. Some days are smoother than others, but I remind myself that I’m building something meaningful for my family and my future. That perspective keeps me going.
