We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Oduey Uga a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Oduey, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from the realization that so much in life begins with our mindset—it’s truly a choice. I’ve learned that I have the power to decide how I respond to the experiences I face, and I choose to view life through a positive lens because I believe that perspective shapes reality. When I focus on the good, it creates space for more positive outcomes to flourish. At the core of my optimism is my strong, foundational relationship with God, who is my rock. This faith keeps me grounded. Instead of spiraling into negativity or feeding into anxious thoughts, I anchor myself in gratitude and joy. Even in challenging times, I remind myself that “this too shall pass,” trusting that every season has a purpose and that growth often comes from the moments we least expect.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of Vibez & Company, a digital agency where I help small businesses and individuals with creative services like graphic design, media editing, website development, marketing strategy, consulting, and virtual assistance. Honestly, I’ve been into graphic design since middle school—it’s something that’s always stuck with me. By my senior year of high school, I was creating cover art for local artists in Boston, and some of my work even made it to the front page of Spinrilla. After freelancing throughout college, I officially launched Vibez & Company in 2022.
Music has always had a special place in my heart. I’ve been a contributor to Boston’s hip-hop scene through event coordination and artist management after COVID in 2021. That experience taught me a lot about the industry, helped me build real connections, and made me want to give back to the music community. In 2023, I created my own video podcast platform called “Behind the Music with OdeeVibez,” where I interview music industry professionals and creatives about their journeys. Some moments that really stand out to me are being invited to events like the BET Awards and VMAs, witnessing Nicki Minaj, a trailblazer for women in hip-hop, receive the Vanguard Award—a huge moment for me, as she’s been such an influence in the industry. I also had the opportunity to work as a correspondent with ExpozedTV, where I interviewed artists like Grammy Award-winner Fridayy.
From a business perspective, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of small businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them elevate their branding and marketing. Whether it’s videography, graphic design, web development, strategic consulting, or media creation, I’m passionate about building things that help others grow and thrive. Vibez & Company is really about encouraging people to dream big and believe that anything is possible when you put in the work and have faith.
Right now, I’m focused on expanding the digital side of Vibez & Company, especially with tech projects like the relaunch of STAYCNNTED this summer. It’s an expansion of CNNTEDCards, which are smart business cards powered by NFC technology to help businesses connect more easily with people. I’m also working on new web, media, and podcast projects designed to inspire and support creatives and entrepreneurs.
Outside of my business, I love collaborating with brands that feel authentic to me. One of my favorite partnerships was with Simon Mall—I’m literally there all the time! I also express my creative side through songwriting, both for myself and others, and tap into my music roots by doing video vixen work when the vibe is right. Oh, and last summer, I dropped my first book, “Your Favorite Quote Book,” which is filled with quotes I wrote to inspire and motivate others.
At the end of the day, everything I do is about creating, connecting, and inspiring people to be their best selves.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience:
Patience has been key in my journey. I’ve worked with all kinds of people—from nightclub crowds to A-list celebrities to new entrepreneurs filled with doubt. I’ve learned to meet people where they are, treat everyone with respect, and trust the process. Sometimes you just have to be still and know that God is working, even when you can’t see it.
Curiosity & Research:
Research has been a game-changer for me. I’m always learning—whether through YouTube, reading, or courses—to stay ahead and grow personally and professionally. Educating yourself keeps you dynamic and prepared for new opportunities.
Faith & Trust in God:
Putting my full trust in God changed everything. I’ve learned to release control, knowing I can’t do this alone. His plans give me hope, even when life feels uncertain. Prayer keeps me grounded, and worrying adds no value—so I let it go.
Advice for Others:
When things get tough, focus on your end goal. Stay positive, be the light in dark spaces, and take it one step at a time. “There are two sides to a history book: those in it and those who read it.” Be the one who’s written about. Start, even if it’s imperfect—progress is what matters.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“We Should All Be Millionaires” by Rachel Rodgers played a pivotal role in my personal and professional development. This book shifted my mindset, helping me realize that financial success isn’t just for a select few—it’s attainable for me, too. It taught me not to sell myself short and to stop shrinking in spaces where I deserve to take up room.
One of the most impactful lessons was about the power of confidence when it comes to money. It’s not just about earning—it’s about believing you’re worthy of abundance. Rodgers emphasizes setting boundaries, valuing your time, and not being afraid to charge what you’re worth. This really resonated with me, especially as a woman navigating business and entrepreneurship.
The book empowered me to think bigger, make bold decisions, and approach financial goals with clarity and purpose. It’s more than just a money book—it’s a guide to shifting your mindset, owning your value, and building a life where wealth isn’t the exception, but the expectation.
