We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kristen Gerety. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kristen below.
Kristen , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I’ve learned that our gifts can come best through our passions. I’ve been competing in tennis for almost 4 decades, and I’ve been coaching for almost 2 of them. I’ve repeatedly seen how coaching tennis can be used as a springboard to foster confidence, creativity, and self-esteem in my players
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve been working on the Advisory Board of an organization called TeamFAME. it is a nonprofit organization founded at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Middle school students are picked up after school and brought to the facility to learn new skills, both off and on the tennis court. In addition to homework help, andtennis lessons, there are various enrichment programs to teach financial literacy, international relations, and other life lessons to give them skills to go out into the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being part of a team has been incredibly impactful. While at Merrimack College , as an undergrad, I played all four years on the varsity women’s tennis team. I learned three important skills: control of my emotions, humility, and an incredible
work ethic.
The value of teamwork in our society is vastly underrated. Over and over again I have seen that folks were at the beginning of their careers want to be recognized individually instead of seeing the value of working in a team. One of the greatest pieces of advice I would give would be to learn skills to work well with different personalities
How would you describe your ideal client?
My passion is developing the skills of athletes who are willing to use mindfulness in their training. I specialize in training that includes breath, work, control of emotions, visualization, and mindfulness.
My ideal client would be the athlete who is willing to train beyond their body and to coordinate their movements with the breath and see how it can bring more power and focus to their on court experience.
