We were lucky to catch up with Belen Arilla Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
BELEN, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience in tattooing comes from my passion for creating art on the human body and the discipline required to constantly improve. Tattooing is not an easy art, it takes years of dedication to perfect the techniques, understand skin, and deliver work that truly matches my clients expectations. There have been moments where my designs didn’t turn out as I hoped, or when working with difficult clients tested my patience. But every challenge has only strengthened my resolve. I stay optimistic because I know each setback is just a part of the process, and every tattoo, every experience, brings me closer to mastering my art. My commitment to my work, combined with a positive mindset, keeps me focused and motivated, even when the road gets tough.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a tattoo artist with a deep passion for realism. My journey has taken me from perfecting my art in Ibiza to working internationally, sharing my art at world-renowned conventions and guest spots. The most exciting part of what I do is the opportunity to transform a client’s story or vision into a permanent piece of art they can carry with them forever. It’s a personal, emotional connection that makes each tattoo unique.
My focus right now is on refining my skills in realism and expanding my reach globally. I’m always striving to grow as an artist, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with ink, and collaborating with other top artists in the industry. I’m also looking forward to some exciting events and collaborations in the near future, which I can’t wait to share with my followers.
At the core of my brand is a commitment to quality, attention to detail, and building meaningful connections with clients. My art isn’t just about tattoos; it’s about telling a story, creating something personal and timeless.
For anyone looking to learn more or collaborate, I’m always open to new opportunities and love being part of the global tattoo community.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities in my journey have been discipline, technical skill, and optimism. Discipline keeps me focused and consistent, pushing through challenges and practicing every day. Technical skill, especially in realism, is key; understanding the tools, techniques, and how to work with skin takes time and dedication. Optimism has kept me moving forward, even during setbacks, by seeing challenges as opportunities to improve. For those starting out, my advice is to develop a routine, master the basics, and maintain a positive mindset, it’s the best way to grow and stay motivated in this art.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always open to collaborating with artists and brands that share my passion for quality, innovation, and the art of tattooing. I’m especially interested in working with talented tattooists and studios that value this art and pushing creative boundaries.
One of my biggest inspirations has always been Thomas Carl Jarlier, his dedication, precision, and unique approach to tattooing have influenced my own journey. Collaborating with artists who have that same level of commitment is something I really appreciate.
