Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jae Hunter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jae, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self-esteem were forged through some of the most challenging experiences in my life. In my early years, I struggled with self-sabotage, and after enduring several toxic and failed relationships, I reached a turning point. As a single mother raising five children on my own at the time, I refused to become a statistic. Deep down, I always knew I was meant for more, and there came a moment where I had to decide- either take control of my life or let my circumstances define me.
At my lowest, I had nothing. I was displaced, carrying my children with me unsure of what the future held. But in that moment of desperation, something in me shifted. I changed my mindset and committed to transforming my life. I stopped making excuses, took action on my dreams, and surrendered to my higher power. I made a vow that if I could make it through this, I would dedicate my life to living in my purpose. As I began to put in the work, I started seeing the fruits of my labor.
There is a deep power that comes from overcoming adversity. Everything I’ve built since that moment has been a result of my own determination, resilience, and faith. The power to succeed was always within me- I just had to claim it.
Looking back, I can see that much of my early struggles stemmed from a lack of self confidence and self-worth. But once I learned to embrace both my feminine and masculine energy in balance, I became unstoppable.
Now, whenever doubt creeps in, I remind myself of everything I have overcome. I’ve accomplished so much, and I know I have even more to give to the world. My confidence isn’t just about what I’ve achieved- it’s about knowing that no matter what life throws at me, I will always have the strength to rise.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I own at Jade Beauty Collective- a med-spa/beauty studio concept. My business is more than just a business or a brand- it’s my purpose. Everything I built I built from the ground up, my journey wasn’t always easy. On this journey I faced struggles that could’ve broken me. I’ve poured my heart and soul into building a business that empowers, uplifts, and helps transform lives.
Jade Beauty Collective is way more than just a beauty studio- it’s a space for collaboration, education, and above all, community and authentic friendships being forged. I wanted to create an environment where beauty professionals could grow, learn, and thrive together. For me, beauty is about so much more than appearances- it’s about confidence, self expression, and character, allowing you to live the best version of yourself.
I believe that self-care is imperative and powerful. When we invest in ourselves, we show up differently in the world. My goal is to help people become the strongest, most confident versions of themselves, just as I did.
What makes my business different or special? It’s the heart and intention behind it. Every service, every client interaction, and every collaboration is rooted in a deeper purpose- to inspire confidence, to build community, and to show others that anything is possible. I truly feel my brand and my business is more than just superficial, it’s a movement in and of itself.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that I embody that assisted me on my journey;
Resilience- I faced many challenges over the year, trying to build my business and brand. I had to re-brand and pivot many a times, but I refused to quit. My advice to anyone trying to learn this trait is to never allow an obstacle to be viewed as a setback. I see everything as a stepping stone or a lesson in life. The good, the bad and the ugly, these are all life lessons. I know it may be cliche to say, but I truly believe the universe/our higher power never gives us more than we can handle.
Self-Discipline- Success isn’t just about motivation or vision, it’s about discipline and action. There’s many days when I don’t feel like showing up, but I had to get up and show up anyway. My advice to anyone trying to be more disciplined is to set clear goals and take baby steps everyday. Rome wasn’t built in a day remember that. Small actions backed by consistent effort is the key to success.
Vision- From a very young age I knew I was made for more. I felt it at the core of my being. Even when I was on the wrong path or when I had nothing, I had a vision of the life I wanted, and I worked relentlessly to create it despite the naysayers. My advice if you are struggling in this area is to get clear on what you want and where you want to go, take personality tests, look deep within yourself to find out your true purpose, pray on it. Once you are clear write it down and visualize it, and then take intentional steps every day that will get you closer to the end goal. Even through uncertainty and doubt, keeping your vision at the forefront will help you get there.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Both of my parents were incredible individuals who shaped me in profound ways. As educators, they instilled in me a deep respect for learning, a strong sense of cultural and spiritual identity, and understanding of the power of politics and community.
My mother was strict but intentional- she allowed me the space to make my own mistakes and learn from them. She didn’t shield me from life’s lessons; instead, she gave me wings to fly, even when my choices weren’t always the best. She was always there to catch me if I fell and never said I told you so.
My father had a heart full of generosity and love for people. He was deeply involved in the community. He was on the school board, involved in politics and also a former creative- he played in a well-known band. He taught me the importance of being open-minded, compassionate, and never judgmental.
Together they gave me the gift of a strong spiritual and cultural foundation- values that shaped who I am today and I continue to carry in everything I do. Above all else combined they taught me the importance of being a good human.
